Flags

So NZ voted, and we get to keep the old flag, the one with the union jack on it rather than changing to the new modern flag.  It has been an interesting exercise and mum is sure that in the future it will change, just now is not the right time.  Maybe in another 10-20 years when there are less war veterans around, and the Queen will have maybe retired (we know she says never), change will come.

In the meantime at Chez Q the builders are still here, and I am still running away when they come, which mum says is silly as I could stay inside and not be disturbed, but I am happy under the deck, and mum makes sure she is home at 6pm, when they pack up so I can come back inside.  She says that I seem to be quite happy.  I eat my dinner and then catch some zzzs in my box.  She was nice and did not put this one in the recycling.

The builders didn't arrive til after 10am this morning, which was good, mum was able to do the dishes and washing, and then she headed out for a walk and went to the cinema to see 10 Cloverfield Lane with a whole lot of 20 year olds skiving off Uni, mum felt like a high school teacher.  It was ok- mum thought it would be scarier, but still she was surprised and didn't know which direction it would go in.

So now Easter weekend, and mum is going to take it easy with books and movies.  She realized that she is exhausted - it has been a pretty hectic three months and she needs some down time.  Hope you all have some nice things planned.  Do you get the weekend off?  It is a four day holiday here in NZ - we get Friday and Monday off work.

  1. The flag thing has been on the early telly a few times
    over here Poppy!x
I must confess l prefer the one with the fern and stars.
Of course as a Sicilian, l fly either the Italian or
Sicilian flag outside my home! HeHe! No Union flag for
    me! :).

And, yes, we get four days off over here to. I've been
to the supermarket to~day, rather than Sunday. Just in
case of visitors! I expect there will be some! Must
have biscuits and some cake in...! If there's any left,
by the time l get there...! :).

  2. I'd seen some of the NZ flags up for vote, some time ago. I can understand why the choice was to keep the status quo for the time being. Canada has pretty strong ties to the monarchy too. Our provincial flag has the Union Jack on it, as well as Ontario's coat of arms. Very traditional.

Enjoy the Easter weekend. Banks, elementary/secondary schools, and various levels of government get both Good Friday and Easter Monday, but we're open on Monday. Just as well...the next door unit hasn't sold and the "fleas" will be home. Actually, probably today too, because of a freezing rain storm.

Take care. Purrs from the boys.

  3. Poppy, dear, it's very thoughtful of your mum to provide that big box for your "comfort zone" when things quiet down for the day. You and mum both need some serious rest & relaxation time at home during this long weekend. Nana naps in the sun!

  4. I must admit that I didn't know about the possible flag change. I, too, like the fern design much better! Wow, we here in the USA never get a four day weekend! Have fun! I'm going to be dyeing hard boiled egg whites to get pastel colors for my deviled eggs...

  5. I'm pleased that the old flag was kept. The new choice in the picture looks too much like a sports logo.

  7. I think a lot of people did a protest vote re National to keep the new flag. I know I did. Once we are mo longer a commonwealth country then it will be time for a new flag. G;ad you get the 4 days off. Rest up

  9. It was on the news this morning that NZ is keeping the original flag. I think it a wise decision not to change it. We too are having a relaxing weekend - hanging out with my Holly.
