Home

I'm back home and firmly sleeping on my pillow.  Mum had a great weekend away, but was  pleased to get home and see me.   She was up early to pick me up at the cattery at the vet.  She had an appointment organized for me to get my vaccination, my joint injection and my summer butt shave.  Ohh and I got my anal glands squeezed- ouch!!!

So I was very tired   mum thinks I have been catching up on four nights sleep that I probably  missed.  My cattery report says I was quiet, but let myself be petted after the first day.    I'll be glad to sleep with mum tonight.

Break

Mum has a few days off and she is going to do some relaxing with her friends.   Me  - I have been sent to the cattery.  Mum thinks the staff think mum is crazy as she handed over the shopping bag, and asked if it could be put down for me to sleep on.  See you on Monday.

Tuesday

Not much happening  here.  Mum went to work.  I went to sleep.  My highlight was 23 hours of sleep and mums is going to bed with a new library  book.  Living the good life.

Hello Friend

Mum saw mr Tui bird after work today.   He was hopping between the flax flowers.  It makes mum smile to see him as she waits for the bus home.

Quiet

We've had a quiet weekend with mum getting rid of her cough.  I'm getting paid in temptations,  so I'm good.

Negative

Mum got texted her negative covid results at 11am this morning.   Results through in 25 hrs, which was quick.  She feels OK, just sneezing, and a bit of coughing.  Just a head cold that will pass.  Mum spent the day like a cat, with little naps all day - purrfect.

Three

Mum woke up with a cough and a stuffy nose this morning, which she is sure is just a head cold.   She rang in sick and then rung our healthline 0800 number to book a free covid test.  Mask on and a 25 minute walk to the testing station.   This is mums 3rd covid swab test since March and was the easiest, with no waiting.   Just one quick swivel up the top of the left nostril then a thank you for coming by the ppe nurse.  Instructions to isolate until results come in, to put your mask on and go straight home.  Mum was all home in an hour.  Time for soup for lunch, a lemon drink and then an afternoon nap.

Results will then be texted to your phone in the next 48 hours.  New instructions on drinking lots of fluid, some vitamin c and to take a walk with your mask on round your backyard to clear your airways.

It is very easy here  and the health departments are happy to test as many people as possible to make sure there is no Covid in the community.

Luckily mum has a big pile of good books to read and a little grey friend to keep her company.

Left, Right and Center

Mum tries to get me to do a little walk around the garden with her after work.  Sometimes I feel like it and sometimes I am just going to sit and do what I want.

Naughty

Mum came home and went for a walk round the garden , and found naughty neighbor having a sunbath in the back garden.   Nothing like lying next to the compost bin to keep warm and toasty.

Green

Yesterday mum found me just sitting out in the green garden catching some rays.  Lovely.

Same

Same harbour as yesterday's pictures,  just mum was on the other side of the city. Where she was yesterday,  is where the hills are in the distance.   She left home at 11am and was walking non stop for 4 hours, window shopping and doing a couple of jobs.  It looks like the last if the sun for the week, but it has been so nice to have 2 nice days in a row.  She will show my sunny day in the garden photos tomorrow.

Beach Visit

What a day for mum.  She did some housework  loading up the washing line and hoovering the carpet.   She walked to town, got some groceries and headed out to visit her friends.  They snacked and ate cake, then mum went to visit another friend for a drink and nibbles.   Then home to feed a hungry grey cat, bring the washing in and relax on the couch.

Me - I snoozed.

Sad?

Is is sad that mum took this picture at the local burger bar at 3.45pm?  She decided to buy her dinner on the way home, and had eaten it all by 4.30 pm.  It was empty then, but the lines would be long by 6pm.  She would rather get dinner on the way home, than go out later or pay expensive delivery charges.

She also managed to pick up her phone when it went off at 5.44pm, then rolled over and woke up at 6.40am.  She managed to wash her face, brush her teeth and hair, get her uniform on, catch a taxi and be at work early at 6.54am.

So she she should be doing more housework,  but she has decided to have the evening off and have a Brooklyn 99 marathon,  which has made her laugh.

Happy Friday everyone.

Thankful

Mum thinks she might be a little crazy.  The birdies were calling out to her tonight as they were hungry,  so she put out bread and some seeds and they gobbled them all up.   They were hungry after all the days of rain and seemed happy to have a calm evening  and full tummies.  Just like me.

Amazing

This photo was on the front of the paper today.  A pod of 12 orcas swimming right up to the harbour of small town Picton.  Mum learnt that there are about 200 orcas living in NZ waters , that they can live up to 100 years old and it is illegal to get to close to them.

Grey

We love grey, we do.  Mum and I both have grey furs.  What we don't love is all the grey skies that we have had recently.   We seem to be having  a run of 6 grey cloudy days and then one nice day  followed by another grim week.  Still we are lucky because we only had a little rain tonight, and some towns have had bad flooding tonight.

Sitting

Another not much day which is perfect for a Sunday.  We looked out the window and watched the rain and the wind blowing the trees around.   A whole weekend spent at home.

Caturday

We did nothing all day.  We slept , then mum did some chores, then boom before we knew it was tea time and then nodded off on the couch.  Adjusting after night shift is hard and mum feels jet lagged.  I know the feeling mum.

Bee

Mum was walking home the other day and stopped to watch this rather big bee 🐝 all excited with the fresh blooms.  It has been good to look for the simple and beautiful things around us to distract us from the stressful week.

Outsiding

The weather has mostly been grey and raining, but on those rare sunny moments we are trying to get outside and get some fresh air .  I like to follow mum around the garden while she pulls up weeds and tidied up.  There is a lot more sun now the heavy trees have been tidied up.  Mum feels though that they should have been trimmed at the end of winter.  It stresses her out that nests and birds must have been disturbed.

Trees

The trees in the back garden had begun a bit overgrown and were blocking a lot of our sun and view.  At 5.30pm last night mum got a text from the landlord to say that he had organized a gardener to come and chop back the trees - today between 10am- 3pm.  Right on the first morning  after mum had her first night shift.  Grrr!!

Mum could have contacted the landlord - but she couldn't figure out a way to not sound angry in her reply.  She did think of booking into a hotel,  but they don't usually have rooms available until later in the day.  She also wanted to make sure I was ok, so she came home to stay with me.  She was in bed by 7.30am and got a couple of hours sleep before the chainsaws started at 10.30am.  They did finish at 2pm, so she got a couple of hours more napping then.  I guess she will be sleeping well tomorrow.

We'll get an after photo when the weather clears.

Sunshine

After a week of dreary grey weather our Sunday was sunny with blue skies.  Mum filled the washing line with towels and sheets and took herself of for a walk.  She very much enjoyed  her stroll and sit in the sunshine watching all the people and dogs strolling by.

Back to Monday and it is raining and cool again.  Mum had to pull out the merino cardi and jacket back on - she is so tired of wearing a jacket every day.  She did the library supermarket run and then came home for a nap.  Mum has to work late tonight and she doesn't know how she will keep her eyes open.

Sean

Like a lot of people, mum was sad to read about the death of Sean Connery today.  One day in the mid 90s  mum was walking down a street in London after work, and she crossed the street and noticed the tall Sean Connery walking towards her.  Everyone was stopping and staring.   It wasn't every day you saw a movie star stroll by.
