Letter

Yesterday, in the middle of the pile of bills was a letter/note.  It was from a young man who lives in the house two doors down from us.  It was to advise us that on Saturday week, the flat was going to be having a party with not one but three bands, and could the neighbours resist from ringing noise control at the council, as the music should be nice and we could always attend if we wanted.

Although mum admires his manners for at least giving notice of the impending entertainment, mum is seriously thinking of popping a note back in his letter box.  She would like to thank him for his manners, and hopes that would extend to being a good host to his guests and keeping them in line within the house.  She would also hope that he would consider the young family with a child on one side of their house, the pensioners on the other, and the family and hospital workers that surround their flat.  That maybe an inner city venue would be more suitable for a three band party, but that mum thinks their is no harm in enjoying themselves til midnight.  But, if the guest extend out onto the street breaking bottles (as they usually do), urinating, vomiting and graffiting the neighbourhood - then all bets are off and the noise control and police are only a phone call away.

Does that sound like mum is a grumpy old lady?  On that particular night mum is out for most of the evening, but will be sure to have those numbers on hand when she gets home.

  1. If your mum is a grumpy old lady because of that than we are twins, exactly in tune and on the same page! Because that's something like I would do. srsly. Hopefully, since they did show some consideration up front, they will keep things within acceptable limits.

    Have a lovely day, ladies!

  2. I do not think your Mum sounds like a grumpy old lady. I think she sounds exactly like MY Mom, who would have done the same thing. Yes, I would keep the numbers handy too!
And I agree with d'Artagnan.. stay inside that night.

  3. I agree with your wise Mum completely, Poppy. We had a neighbour pop through a similar note but it's still not on if it's very loud and goes on too late, that's what discos are for, not residential areas! I'd be by the 'phone (your mum and I could be grumpy twins together). Stay safe and cosy. My furry boys are not looking forward to 5 November...

  4. I'm even grumpier. No one around here would have the manners to give advance notice, though.

Still, if they do get out of hand later, definitely call the noise control #. I used to have it for our police dept, lost it ages ago, will have to get it again.

Poppy, we here agree: Stay inside that night, okay?

  5. Oh Poppy,
I think your mama is right on. I do hope you will be safely snuggled indoors that night...it worries me to think of you being outside with that going on...

    Love you,

  7. We think the Mum is not grumpy, just realistic. Nice manners, but 3 bands? Seriously stoopid. We agree that you need to stay inside where it is safe that night, sweet Poppy!

  8. Our mum is also on team grumpy. We hope your party people are sensible, and remember that being preemptively polite does not then allow them to carry on like porkchops.

Alternatively, your mum could always attend. In pyjamas. With a mug of Horlicks. MOL.

  9. It was nice for the party-giver to send a letter, though it seems that it may be more of an excuse to make noise than a genuine letter of concern. It can be used to turn the complainant into the villain if the police are called. Midnight is a good time for noise to cease; it may seem early to some, but it's late to others. And others are what consideration is all about.

  11. Nope, mom doesn't sound grumpy at all...just being sensitive of the needs of all the neighbours.

As for you Poppy, I think you should stay indoors where it is safe!

  12. A nice little note back thanking them for the advance notice would be good. But...I would also tell noice control in advance of the event so that they can keep an eye on things. There are reasons that noise controls are established. Nice music or not.

  13. I'm a grumpy old lady too, and have resorted to calling the noise police when a party behind us made the windows rattle... at 2am. You stay inside Poppy, where it is safe - and Julie, don't you feel bad it you need to stop the noise XO

  14. LOL you will be thanking that you didn't live next to us. The boys had the amps up LOUD. But it was during the day and not for long.
Hope party is enjoyed by all and keeps civil... ie grog doesn't take over...
I'm not one for noise so would struggle - old fart that I am LOL
    Love Leanne
