Pill Popping

This is me with my last scratcher pad.  I used to sleep with it - I loved it that much.

So day two of the pill popping and mum is ready to give up.  Two lots of pills and ointment a day is too much for a reluctant pussy cat.  Mum says I can still run fast - so must be feeling better.

I have to go back to the vet on Monday morning for a check up - lucky lucky me.

  1. You are bigger and stronger than me, Poppy - my human just grabs my little 5 lb. 4 oz. body and forces things down my throat whether I want them or not! She does feel bad, though (I take an appetite stimulant most days because I don't eat enough), so she ordered something called Flavor-doh. It was recommended by someone who has to dose some VERY reluctant cats. I wonder if they ship to New Zealand? Hopefully you won't need any more pills after your eye heals, but you never know.

  3. Pill pockets? Could they be opened up, if they're capsules, or ground up and mixed with canned food, if you eat canned? Often meds are too bitter-tasting, though, to make that effective. Why can't drug companies make these meds taste good? Seriously.

Paws crossed for you, Poppy. And for your mum!

  4. Good girl getting away from mum! But then, you'll really get sick and won't be able to run and then she'll get you!

  5. Popilicious we're sorry to hear your eyes is still being a bother. You weren't out practicing for Boxing Day, were you? Our mum is thinking of your mum, Lishy drove her crazy when she had to give him antibiotics after his dental. We are thinking of you, and saying quick Poppy, run!!!

  6. I felt bad about forcing pills into my Tucker. That roly poly sausage could have made things tough for me but all he did was stare at me with his big eyes in his moon face and silently ask why I was persecuting him. Three pills a day for four weeks...

I agree with Fuzzy Tales. Try Pill Pockets, crushing the pills, mixing with food... I'm sure most things have been tried there... Good luck, Poppy. It's for your own good, remember.

  7. I'm so very sorry you are not feeling well, sweet Poppy. I'm wondering if they have Pill Pockets in New Zealand...they are really soft tasty treats with a hole in the middle where us mommy's can hide pills. If you can't get them where you live, can your mama try hiding the pills in really soft cheese? We have a cheese product called Velveeta here that is super soft...I just take a little and smoosh it around the pill...my little ones gobble it right up.

I hope you get all better very very soon!

    We all love you,
Mama Jenny and the Whiskers & Purrs Gang

  9. My mommie gives me medicine in Greenies pill pockets and I gobble them right up. I even forget that I'm getting medicine. If you have them there, tell your mom to buy some for you.

  10. If the pills are small and not capsules, I'd use a pill grinder and put the granules in Greenies Pill Pockets. The reason I mention grinding up the pill is some cats will eat the dough and still spit out the pill!

I've heard butter and soft cheese around the pill helps, too. However, you only get one shot getting it down as the pill will disintegrate quickly :(

  11. Poppy, we are sorry to hear about your hurty eye. Mommy pills us this way: She crouches on the floor behind us so we can't back up, squeezes our mouth open with her left hand, and puts the pill in with her right, and she uses her thumb to push it down the hatch. If your Mum aims right and goes between the fangs she won't get bitten (hopefully). But we know some kitties are VERY hard to pill...

  12. Most kitties are very hard to pill or medicate.

You could try putting the pill in butter. The lady knew a kitty who would gobble down a pill if it was covered in butter.
