Writers Block Monday

Mum was sitting in the lounge, thinking about her writers block. She didn't know what to post about, so she checked her mail. Real mail, not email to see what came in the post today.

Well last week she had been in the supermarket, and there was a big long line to get to the counter, so she picked up a magazine to browse through while she waited, cause an article interested her. Now she never usually does this, cause she thinks it is rude to read it if you aren't going to pay for it, and also when she buys a magazine she doesn't want one that has been thumbed through by someone else. So in the past 20 years, she might have only done it once.

Well today, in the mail, one company was thanking mum for her business with them by sending her a free magazine.. Guess which one she got?

Yup, you guessed it. The one that she thumbed through at the checkout counter. That will teach her. Now she'll never ever do that again.

So what do your folks do? Do they flick through the magazines at the checkout, or do they leave them?

  1. Our mum doesn't like to flick through the magazines either. Besides, she has to hold onto the green bags as soon as she lines up, or she forgets to use them!

  2. Mum says she does not read the magazines at the supermarket, she saves all that for when she is at the hairdresser.

  5. Our mom is guilty of looking through the magazines while she waits...but she will only look through those that look like they have already been thumbed through by someone else!

  6. Our mom doesn't usually thumb through magazines at the checkout unless the line is moving really slow!

  7. We 'fess up. Our mum does, on occasion, look at a magazine in lane. But usually, she is fretting about forgetting something and is digging through the trolley to see if she already got the item.
    She always looses her list!

  8. Our Mum has been known to flick through a magazine if the title of an article catches her eye. It's got to be a pretty interesting article though, 'cos she's usually too busy getting ready to unpack the groceries onto the counter. If she does buy the magazine, she tries to 'recycle' the magazine afterwards by sharing it with family and/or friends.

  10. The PM will flip through one to see if it's worth buying. They aren't cheap!

  11. Mom leaves them alone. She gets at least 5 magazines at home which keeps her busy...and then when she goes to the hairdresser she reads the good gossip magazines...her guilty pleasure.

  12. Our mum doesn't like to flick through magazines either but then she's odd because she reads them back to front. Starting with the back page of the magazine.

  13. Hmm.... we asked our Mom. She says that mostly she just looks at the covers.

  14. I just read the headlines on the front of the tabloids--they're always good for a laugh. :)

  16. Mom glances at the outrageous headlines in the grocery line, but rarely ever buys a magazine. Only when she's flying.

  17. She's not a big flicker... I mean if there is something she thinks might be interesting she might flip to the article to make sure it's what she thinks but otherwise, no...

  18. Mom reads the front covers at the market sometimes, but she does not buy them. She needs green papers for our treats, not for magazines.

  20. I only look through a cooking or holiday mag while waiting for my H .. when he's got me shopping with him at the local harware store. A girl can look at nails for so long before she says, I'll be at the mag stand ...

  21. Our mom is usually trying to find the shortest line to check out and usually doesn't flick.

  22. Ohhhh, you caught me! Not very often, though. And mostly home magazines because it's all about the pictures!

  23. Mama doesn't look at the mags cuz they're usually all hyped news about celebrities. She still looks at all the headlines tho.

  25. Our mum doesn't look at the magazines because she shops in the evenings when it is quiet, so she can go right to an empty checkout when she has finished her shopping.

  26. Our Mum uses the self checkout lanes where there usually isn't a wait. They don't have magazines there either.

  27. How did they know? Did they find her fingerprints on the magazine?

Mum reads the wacky headlines of celebrity silliness. Sometimes she might buy a cooking magazine, but not very often. She gets enough magazines now by mail.

  28. My momma doesn't read the magazines in line either. She catches up on all the gossip when she gets her hairs cut.

  29. My mom won't look at the magazines at the checkout! But she likes to bring home books from the library! Then she doesn't read them... just looks at them from a distance. The only books she reads is the ones she buys new!!! Silly mom!

  30. Our Mom dosen't buy magazines at the shop cuz they don't sell cat magazines. Wonder why?

  31. I always try to have a book on hand for long line-ups at the grocery store or long trips on the bus. But I am guilty of flipping through the food ones to get ideas of what to make for dinner!

  32. No flicking here. Glogirly knows it's a slippery slope. One minute you're glancing at O's table of contents, the next you're coming home with the National Enquirer.

Enquiring minds do not need to know.

  33. I am very much against the flipping. I agree that it is rude to do. I feel that way with books too - I don't want someone elses grody germs in my books and magazines. I try to pick from the back whenever possible to avoid it!

  34. That's funny! My mom says she has read an article before if the line is really long and slow.
