This is a picture of a very famous New Zealand cat, Rastus and his driver Max. Max used to ride his motorbike around the curvy country roads of NZ and Rastus was always perched like that on top of the engine, with his own helmet on. He even had his own ad on tv!!
Sadly Rastus, Max and Maxs girlfriend Gaynor were killed in a tragic road accident 10 years ago. They have a memorial website here: http://www.petsonthenet.co.nz/maxandrastus.htm and one of their friends has written several childrens books about this very clever cat.
We miss you Max and Rastus.

That was an amazing life that Rastus led! He must have had so much fun. It is very sad that they passed so tragically.

ReplyDeleteOh Poppy this is such a great post. My Mum has a cutting from Fortean Times from about 1994 all about Rastus and his adventures. We are going to spend some time reading the memorial site. They were just so cool!

Oh my goodness, what a tragedy that they were killed. At least they were together and doing what they loved to do.
ReplyDeleteOh wow. I feel bad that they're gone, because that's a lifestyle I could aspire to! Well, except for the helmet part, although I know that was for safety.

ReplyDeleteMum says she has seen a photo before of Rastus on the bike but didn't know they were from NZ. It is very sad they all got killed, but at least they enjoyed their lives to the full beforehand.
