Expiry Date

Last night mum made chicken and lemon risotto. As she was throwing out the box of chicken stock, she thought she should look at the expiry date on the box.

It said best before 2004. Oh well, it was tasty and mums tummy was fine.

We know you are all eagerly awaiting the camera photos. Getting a new collar is proving tricky, and mum hopes to have time this week to make it to the SPCA, so thanks for your patientce. We hope you like these pictures of my fave plastic bag, which I loves to sit in.

Have a great week everybuddy.

  4. Most of the spices and stocks in our cupboard are past their use-by date... we figure they just lose their kick, they don't go bad. Hope we're right!!

  5. Nothing wrong with living life on the wild side!! I would give anything for chick-hen, even dried up 5 years old stuff.

  8. Glad you didn't get sick...that expired a LONG time ago! That's what our cupboards look like around here cuz not much cooking gets done in our house.

  9. It is still safe to eat products with a Best Before date, it just means they won't be as tasty as if you ate them before the best before.

Use by products should not be consumed after the date printed on the packet.

  10. It probably said 2009. Those dates printed in little dot type print often get scratched or rubbed off a bit and that makes them hard to read.
Love your dear face in today's pix.
Looks like you're just about to talk to us!

  12. Aren't plastic bags the very best in the world!!

Your mum's dinner sounds very yummy, even with the old stock!:)

  13. Glad nobody got sick. Our mom is super weird about expiration dates. If the milk says it expires today, she won't drink it and will dump it at the end of the night. Looking forward to seeing your new collar!

  14. We are looking forward to seeing the photos you take with your collar cam. Our mum has got out of date stuff in the larder too. If it looks and smells okay, she will still use it. Like STPO said, 'best before' is just a guide to optimum quality. Mum will still use 'use by' a couple of days after the date if it smells okay but never any longer than that.

  16. Uhm, you's momma doesn't use her chicken broth furry much, does she? You should see some of the dates that come out of the back of our freezer...OUCH!

  17. Well, as long as it still tasted good. Mom says she's also past her best if used by date.

  23. 2004? :o The Mommy thought she was bad... MOL (We moved to this house in late 2006 and bought all new food then, so at least she knows nothing is older than that...) Glad to hear she didn't get sick.

We were wondering about the collar, we're looking forward to pics when they happen!

    Purrs and hugs,

  24. Most of that stuff lasts way longer than the date on the box. Except milk mum says. Still she tries not to have too much on the shelf.
