Tsunami Warning Sunday

We had a bit of an exciting morning. After the terrible earthquake that struck Chile, New Zealand and many other Pacific nations were put on Tsunami alert. So mum and Gdad waited til the excitement was over before they went to visit their friends, who live on the beachfront. Don't worry all the civil defence recommendations on the radio said that you should be ok, but not to walk on the beach or go swimming or out on a boat.

Of course when mum and Gdad were driving to their friends house, they saw people swimming with their children, and others out on small craft. Not many people, but some.

If mum had been concerned, and thought there was a huge risk, she would have stayed home with me, as we live inland and quite high up. Or she would have taken me with her. New Zealand only got a few little waves, no Tsunami and nobody injured at all.

Oh, and ironically the friends were out, not because of the Tsunami warning, but they had gone into town to help a friend search for a new place to live.

  10. It must have been quite exciting to go through having a tsunami warning. Did anybody see the actual "wave" that you know?

We are feeling awfully bad for the poor people in Chile where the earthquake happened. That on top of Haiti - we hope that is all the earthquakes for many years.

  13. Years ago Jan watched a storm approach. Most everyone got out of the pool as soon as the lightning began but there were a couple of idiots who not only stayed in it but they kept their kids in the water too. There will always be idiots, no matter what the warning. Glad you are all safe.

  14. We are very glad you stayed safe Poppy and the waves were much smaller than expected. When mum got up this morning, the first thing she did was check the news.
