Today Mum got to go out into the sunshines as she got to do a visit to her hometown city. She was only there for the day, getting up early and flying in. Her brother and niece were there to meet her and they had a busy day. They went to the cemetery and took Gdad and Nan for a ride up there (their ashes), while they were there they got to speak to the sexton and he was able to organize that mum and dad got to go into their plot. Then the family went and organised a headstone for the plot. Once that has been installed they will organize another visit and leave some flowers. They feel better for having put them together somewhere where the sun will shine on their spot and the gentle breezes from the trees and gardens will blow over them. Mum will like having a look at the spot, as hers is right next door. When they bought a plot for their parents, mum asked her brother if she could have one too, so it is all pre bought and paid for so when her times comes she knows where she will go.
A little sushi lunch was in order and then there was a quick visit to the lawyers to sign some papers. There is a lot of signing after a family death, and it can take some time to get everything sorted out. Mum also got a new will sorted out for herself this week - it was a good opportunity to put her papers in order in case anything happened to her. Don't worry I am included in her will, as one of her good friends will take custody of me should mum not be around.
So mum got to go for a walk in the sunshine and spend some time with her family. She flew home in the evening and got to spend time with me and get a couple of chores done. Now she is ready for the weekend, and is going to try and have some fun as she has felt a bit trapped the last few weekends due to being so sick.
We hope you have some fun things planned too.

Thurs 13th...! Oh! Dear! HeHe! Silly Willie..! :).
We agree with Willie, a lovely post, but bittersweet.
ReplyDeleteYour mum is very proactive and organized, to already have her plot and to have updated her will. Our biped certainly doesn't want to think that far ahead--which isn't smart. :-/
Purrs to you both for a wonderful weekend.
Poppy, dear, it's good that your mum and her family have "done the Egyptian thing" as my brother called the family gathering to make our final arrangements. One of the younger women is now a lawyer and she was quite firm about it being done while the sun was shining and flowers blooming!
ReplyDeleteIt's good to have things prepared, Poppy. I would like to have myself buried with my ancestors down east, but there won't be anyone to see to my remains when I go, so I'll probably just be planted in a local grave.
ReplyDeleteMy human's dad passed away a year and a half ago, and my human was in charge of his estate - it's only now getting done being put in order. So she knows how much stuff goes on.

ReplyDeleteSo sorry for your loss. Yes it is nice to get everything in order.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely place for the family to all be together again.
But hopefully not too soon xx
