Mild Winter

As we near the end of winter, some warmth has finally come back and we have had three evenings in a row where we have been able to open the windows for a short while to let the breeze in and not needed the heat pump on.  We only learnt this year that many people in the US use their air conditioners so much in the summer, that power bills are more expensive.  Luckily for us, both our summers and winters are rather mild here, and we only use ours to heat in the winter, and in the summer open our windows and doors.  We do look forward to more outdoors time though, it is much nicer for mum to go for a stroll when the sun is shining and the wind isn't blowing her about.

Almost the weekend - yippee!!

Although we had a very wet winter, it was still warm. So, people did'nt use so much...What will happen next, knowing the company, up will go the tariffs..So, we, the consumer will pay in the long run...Nothing new there then!

  2. Poppy, dear, you and your mum are fortunate to live in a mild climate. Here in the American Midwest we just endured one of the coldest -- and most expensive -- winters on record. Many of us fed large flocks of birds twice a day, plus wild critters scrounging on the ground. Be glad you've got such a nice, comfortable home.

  3. Yes, New Zealand does seem to have moderate temperatures in both summer and winter. Here in southern Alberta, the temperatures recently have been in the mid-30s in Celsius, which are the mid-90s in Fahrenheit, so I have been using my air conditioner. You mentioned winter is nearing its end; don't say that, since when your winter ends so does our summer! But if our summer still has another couple of months to go, I hope your winter continues mild.

  7. We have the cool blowing thing, but mum doesn't keep it that cold. More to take the humidity out of the air. So our energy bills aren't that bad in the summer. Plus she does use fans to move the air around which is good too.
