Kitchenitis

This was our kitchen last week, when we had to get the oven fixed.  Mum was trying to cook some chops one night, she kept checking them and then figured out that the oven wasn't working, as the chops were still raw after an hour.  Mr Electrician had to replace the element, as it had corroded through.

Mum had lost a lot of her kitchen mojo for a while.  She didn't feel like cooking and was doing easy things for dinner, like beans on toast or just some icecream or yogurt.  Since having the oven fixed, mum has felt a little more like doing stuff in the kitchen.  She made lemon rissotto for dinner last nigh and cooked a caramel and choc slice.  She did start of some no knead bread, but the yeast was old, so that went in the bin.  Tonight she made corn fritters with a big salad for dinner is going to make some carrot and corriander soup for the weeks lunches.

Mum thinks the kitchenitis is over finally - we'll have to wait and see.

  1. Oh, your kitchen looks so modern! I'd love cooking in it. Mine is retro. As in late 60's retro. Except mine is original retro... not just retro design. My stove is actually 44 years old. What's worse is that I am way older than my stove despite it being so old. bugger.

I am cooking some today, too. Freeze ahead and reheat later-type cooking. Sensible but yummy and totally not fancy.

    Have a lovely un-kitchenitis day!

  7. Sometimes you need a kitchen break. Mum does that too. Also she cooks bigger batches, like with soup, then she can have a bit every few days. Maybe a salad too.

Plus she is trying a new casserole tonight. Hope it works for her.

  8. I don't blame your mum for not wanting to work in the kitchen without a properly working oven. I hope things are getting back to normal there - well, after the fireworks, anyway.

  9. Yum...your mom is a way better cook than ours. She calls a lot of what she makes a kitchen surprise. She made it in the kitchen, she'll be surprised if anyone eats it, MOL.
