Prince
Today, a Prince came to mums work, not to see her in particular, but when mum arrived at work she had to wait only two minutes for Prince William to pass by on his way to visit the childrens ward at the hospital. Mum got a quick glance, he looked tall and handsome, and was smiling broadly. Mum and a couple of her friends stepped out of the way, and said good morning to our Prime Minister, his wife and other ministers as they passed. They smiled, and said hello and "get back to work".
This is our Prime Minister John Key taking Prince William out for dinner. I think he did offer to help cook the steak, while John downed a couple of beers like a good kiwi bloke. It made the front of the paper today, and we all laughed.
Mum didn't think that it would be such a big deal, but actually everyone was really happy to have seen the Prince. He shook hundreds of hands, smiled and talked to lots of people at work. When he went to the childrens ward, he stopped and spoke with each family and child there, posed for photos with the staff and we think he did a super job.
Mum still remembers the day she saw the Queen up close. It was hundreds of years ago, when mum was at high school. The Queen was visiting, and mum and her schoolmates were asked to put their uniforms on and go, even though it was a school holiday. Nerdy mum did what she was told, but the Queen did stop and mention what nice uniforms we were all wearing.
So that was mums brush with royalty today. I had a royal day today - lots of queenly napping.

I don't see what your Mummy got all excited about. After all, she gets to see a princess every day - you!
ReplyDeleteNice to do and see something different on a work day!! Hope you got to enjoy the BBQ :-)
ReplyDeleteThe Prince is in Australia now. I am not sure if my mum will get to meet him like your mum.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to get to see real prince up close occasionally! #1 also remembers seeing the Queen up close when she was a girl.
ReplyDeleteBy the way, that was a very charming comment left by Misha!
How exciting for your mom! Us, we would have rather napped like you....
ReplyDeleteWow! That's very cool!
ReplyDeleteoh, dear! that's so amazing! I bet your mommie was so delighted, wasn't she? I would be! hehee... so good!
ReplyDeletehave a sweet dreams, dear!
That is very very cool!!
ReplyDeleteReally? That is SO cool! We're in Canada, so human royalty is far away. Of course, we're royalty of the feline kind--our mum can bask in OUR presence!

How exciting! We think the prince is doing a splendid job! Our mum would have liked to see him.
ReplyDeleteWe have a brother named Wills. He absolutely adores our mum but he's no prince to us.
That sure is exciting! Did you get some BBQ?

I am sure your Mom enjoyed both her encounters with royalty. But she loves her Princess Poppy best!
ReplyDeleteWe saw that photo in the paper and we laughed too. When it was on the news, it said he was visiting a hospital. We waved and looked to see if we could see your mum, but no-one waved back to us, so maybe she didn't see us.
ReplyDeleteCool, but you are the real royalty Poppy!!
ReplyDeleteWow that is pretty cool Poppy! Of course, being American my first thought when I saw Prince was the little purple dude - not even close I guess! But it was probably not a big deal to your mom, since she gets to spend time with royalty all the time, right Princess Poppy! We bet she was totally cool the whole time.
ReplyDeleteWe were hoping that he'd come and visit you, but visiting your mum is a good second. He's not coming to Tasmania :(
ReplyDeleteThat must have added a nice bit of variety to the day!
ReplyDeleteMy human sister also works at a Children's hospital. But she hasn't yet seen a real prince or queen there.
How exciting! Cuts down on the boredom at work for mum.

ReplyDeleteHey, that's pretty neat, and also a photo! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow, what an exciting day. FAZ
ReplyDeleteThat's pretty exciting PoppyQ, next time Mum sees the Prince, tell him King Brian says hello!
ReplyDeleteThat sure is furry exciting!!! He IS a handsome young man. But, we know you're the REAL Queen!
ReplyDeleteThat Prince William. He's a real people-person, like his mom was! I think it's neat you got to see him that close.
ReplyDeleteOMC! How exciting for your mum! Did your mum get invited to dinner too? teeheehee!
ReplyDeleteOMC! A real prince! Did he ask to meet you Poppy?
ReplyDeleteOh Poppy, I am so jealous. I think Prince William is soooo cute. Right after he was born I bought a special little Peter Rabbit plate with his name on it. Then I had my own baby, William. Tell your mum to steal a kiss the next time.
ReplyDeleteHow cool is that. To rub shoulders with royalty twice in a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteWow, sounds like an exciting day for your mum, Poppy!
ReplyDeleteThat is really cool Poppy! But you are the real royal! If you don't mind my saying so!
ReplyDeleteWe cats are royal by blood too. ;)
ReplyDeleteHow very exciting! :)
Meow on!
