Prince

Today, a Prince came to mums work, not to see her in particular, but when mum arrived at work she had to wait only two minutes for Prince William to pass by on his way to visit the childrens ward at the hospital. Mum got a quick glance, he looked tall and handsome, and was smiling broadly. Mum and a couple of her friends stepped out of the way, and said good morning to our Prime Minister, his wife and other ministers as they passed. They smiled, and said hello and "get back to work".

This is our Prime Minister John Key taking Prince William out for dinner. I think he did offer to help cook the steak, while John downed a couple of beers like a good kiwi bloke. It made the front of the paper today, and we all laughed.

Mum didn't think that it would be such a big deal, but actually everyone was really happy to have seen the Prince. He shook hundreds of hands, smiled and talked to lots of people at work. When he went to the childrens ward, he stopped and spoke with each family and child there, posed for photos with the staff and we think he did a super job.

Mum still remembers the day she saw the Queen up close. It was hundreds of years ago, when mum was at high school. The Queen was visiting, and mum and her schoolmates were asked to put their uniforms on and go, even though it was a school holiday. Nerdy mum did what she was told, but the Queen did stop and mention what nice uniforms we were all wearing.

So that was mums brush with royalty today. I had a royal day today - lots of queenly napping.

  7. Really? That is SO cool! We're in Canada, so human royalty is far away. Of course, we're royalty of the feline kind--our mum can bask in OUR presence!

We have a brother named Wills. He absolutely adores our mum but he's no prince to us.

  11. We saw that photo in the paper and we laughed too. When it was on the news, it said he was visiting a hospital. We waved and looked to see if we could see your mum, but no-one waved back to us, so maybe she didn't see us.

  13. Wow that is pretty cool Poppy! Of course, being American my first thought when I saw Prince was the little purple dude - not even close I guess! But it was probably not a big deal to your mom, since she gets to spend time with royalty all the time, right Princess Poppy! We bet she was totally cool the whole time.

My human sister also works at a Children's hospital. But she hasn't yet seen a real prince or queen there.

  25. Oh Poppy, I am so jealous. I think Prince William is soooo cute. Right after he was born I bought a special little Peter Rabbit plate with his name on it. Then I had my own baby, William. Tell your mum to steal a kiss the next time.
