One Year

One Year ago today, Christchurch had a devastating earthquake.  One hundred and eighty five people lost their lives, and today the country stopped to remember.  116 died in one building alone, which collapsed and also suffered from fire.  Today we thought of them and the families they left behind, and all of those people who stepped up to help the wounded and the people of Christchurch.  So many good people gave their time and money to help all those affected - we say thank you to them all.

Mum works at the hospital in her city, and they were expecting some traumas to be flown in.  Mum had finished early for the day, so she went home, had a quick meal and a shower and headed back to work to give the evening shift people a hand.  Luckily only a few patients had to make the journey north, and most were able to be helped and then sent home to recover with their families.
