Monday

Mum was up like an early bird this morning.  She had a good day, but was glad to hit home with me.  I was ready for a snuggle and climbed onto her knee and cried when she got home.  Then she realized that my biscuit bowl was empty.  Oh well.

Last day of winter here in New Zealand.  Thanks for coming winter, but we sure are ready for spring.  Bring it on!!

Have a good weekend everybuddy.

Sunny Sunday

We had a lovely morning here this morning, the sun was busy shining, so me and mum got some chores done.  She got towels and my wool blankie out on the line.  Mum did some dishes and some tidying and thought she should head out for a walk.  It was a beautiful day out, warm and bright blue skies, and it looked like all of the capital city was out in the fresh air.  Mum popped into a couple of shops to do some window shopping, and by the time she came out, it was cloudy and cold and ready to rain.

So she came home to make some dinner, have a nap and ring the family and get all ready for the week ahead.

Hope you all had a lovely Sunday too with lots of relaxing done.

Hello Caturday Peeps

Hi Caturday Peeps, are you rocking your Caturday?  Having fun yet.  Us girls had a little lie in this morning, which is always nice.  The mumster is on call - but for a job that seldom requires her to trek into work, so she sleeps easy and is a nice excuse to have a quiet weekend.  The doyens of weather prediction have told us it will be a rainy late winter weekend, so mum took the opportunity to head into town this afternoon.

She only bought a couple of small things, some cards and nick nacks.  The most she spent was at the supermarket.  With her cold not progressing much, she thought she should buy some foods just in case she felt like staying at home tomorrow, and stocked up with enough to supply her for the next couple of days in case she is house bound.

That was enough to exhaust her, so she had a little nap when she got home.  Then it was an easy dinner of a supermarket salad.  Time to watch George Clarkes Amazing Spaces and watch the news.
Then mum wants to head the bed and finish reading her book, which is getting to the exciting bit.

Me - I have been guarding the house and rolling around on the bed.  Life is good.

Enjoy your Caturday my friends.

Germy

Mum woke up with a stuffed up head and can feel germs settling in.  So she has stocked up on tissues.  She didn't feel too bad for work, and luckily as there were already 3 staff off, and there was a scramble to get every area covered.  So after work, mum got dinner in and took a nap at 5.30 and then woke up at 9pm.  So she has got up to say hello to me, and got the washing on, as she needs to get the uniform up and ready to dry.  Aren't middle aged Friday nights such fun.

So rest up my sweeties - it is Caturday tomorrow and we hope you are all planning for some fun.

OH and our friend wanted to know what we were watching on tv.  It is just an ad for something with two hands.  Nothing rude.  We are not those kinds of girls.

Holy Moly Roly Poly

Holy Moly we are glad that it is Friday Eve (meaning it is Thursday nite).  The mumster did a bit of overtime, but it was ok as she had leftovers all ready for her dinner, a bit of reheated chicken and some coleslaw.  She said the best bit was dessert, it was a small Christmas plum pudding.  She thought she had better eat it before next Christmas rolls around.

Speaking about rolling around, she has noticed that I have been looking a bit roly poly lately, and the mum is feeling a bit more of a chubster.  Time for us ladies to shape up she thinks.

Late Tuesday

Mum was home late again tonight.  Dinner for her and for me was after 11pm, but that was mums last late evening shift for a couple of weeks.  Yippee.  Much as the sleep ins are nice, mum is getting old and likes to get her work done during the day and have the evening to relax with me.

So we are off to snuggle on the bed and get ready for a day shift tomorrow.

Purr Power Worked

Yippeee - our buddy Chuck Bass got found.  His mum was very stressed, especially when she got a message that a dead grey pussy cat was found close by.  Her friend however got out of her car across the road, and hear a meowing in the garden and it was Mr Chuck in his little camp.  So he got taken home straight away.  Thank you everyone for thinking of him and his mum - it is always stressful to lose your buddy.

I was worried about my mum today, as she went to work and got back really really late, and I was super duper hungry. I waited outside for her and came running up the side of the house meowing and crying out to her.  Withing two minutes I was whisked inside and my dinner was served and I feel all better soon.

Hope you all had a good night and are busy relaxing now your week has begun.

Missing - Our Buddie Chuck Bass

                                                                       MISSING

Our good friend Chuck Bass has gone missing in Adelaide, Australia.  Our lovely friend Kimberlee from Brown Button Trading opened her door on Friday and he snuck out and ran.  She is understandably distraught and we hope she finds her buddy soon.  She has even promised that he doesn't have to wear bow ties anymore.

Our Sunday has been quiet.  Our days lately  have been sunny and warm in the morning, but mid afternoon the clouds gather and the temperature dropped.  Mum did manage to get the sheets and towels out on the line which made her happy.  A walk into town to go to the fruit/veg market to stock up for the week.  She is going to make a good winter meal of carrot/parsnip/turnip mash for dinner with some sausages.  Me- I'm having a feast.

So think good thoughts for our buddies Chuck and Kimberlee.  We hope he is home soon.

Cronut Caturday

Hey kitties it is Caturday and I'm still rocking the turd toy.  The mumster woke up at a leisurely time this morning to find the little city drenched in sunshine.  So after a quick shower and a banana breakfast, she got herself dressed and walked into the city to meet miss Belle.  They caught up and bought sushi for lunch, and some cronuts, although you are not allowed to call them cronuts anymore - apparently the political correctness police say that cronut is trademarked and they are called french doughnuts.  In reality a big old doughnut/croissant mix filled with custardy goodness.

The girls went down by the sunny waterfront and ate their lunch, then went off for a walk.  Mum dropped off books at the library, and did a few jobs for the niece.  Mum then trekked off to the burbs to meet a bestie.  They went to the cinema to see Amy - the documentry about Amy Winehouse which mum enjoyed a lot, even though it was confronting to watch.  A cheap Asian stirfry dinner, then mum headed back to the city, via the supermarket for some supplies and finally home to feed me at 9pm - and now I have headed off to bed, while mum sits on the couch and catches up on some shows (shameless season 5).

So after a busy old Caturday we are looking forward to a more relaxing morning tomorrow.

Cigar (turd) toy

Mum got me this new cigar toy - she can't help but think that it looks like a turd.  A big brown one, and it gives her a fright when she gets home from work and sees it on the rug.  So Friday night was spent with me frolicking round on the rug, while mum got the chores done.  Middle aged ladies know how to rock Friday night.  Beans on toast for tea for mum and a feast for me - culinary delights.

Hope you all had a great Friday night too and got to put your feet up.

Thankful Thursday

Mum sure is thankful it was Thursday today.  She has got herself 3 days off work in a row - yippee!!  Work was one of those days - busy and often in mums field it gets busier towards the end of the day, so no chance to wind down and take it easy, instead it picks up and you run around more.  So tonight she needed to nap before she could wind down.  Such an old lady.  Still first world problems.

Do you read Humans of New York blog?  Brandon is a photographer that normally takes snap of folks in New York and writes a few little sentences about them giving an interesting insight into their lives.  Lately he has been travelling and the pictures and words about the workers in the brick kilns in Pakistan are humbling.  Families who are born into continual debt, and work and work, and are neglected and even tortured by their employers.  Shocking.

So we are going to bed thinking of just how lucky we are - truly thankful.

Talkative Tuesday

I have been very talkative today.  I woke mum up at 5:50am to tell her something very important, and did a bit more yelling at her when she got home.  She thinks she has pinned it down to three things:

  1. It is very windy outside - it may be even a bit stormy.
  2. You need to go back to my normal flavour of biscuits.  I do not like these ones even though I will continue to eat them.
  3. Please leave the bed and let me sleep on the flannel sheets.
I will let her figure it out.

Tonight Pretty Woman is on tv.  Mum wonders how it can be 25 years old?  It does look pretty dated now though, and the music a bit cheesy.  She wonders how many times she has seen it over the years.  She is conflicted though - such a pretty unrealistic picture of prostitution - but on the other hand young Julia Roberts and dishy Richard Gere - what is not to love! Actually the decor in the hotel is pretty old fashioned and ugly looking now.

Have a good night everyone.

Party Monday

How come Mondays roll round much quicker than Fridays?  The sound of that alarm screaming at us at 6.30am always makes mum want to roll over and just switch it off and stay in bed.  But mums got to pay the bills.

So mum went for a walk after work, stocked up on groceries.  She got the washing machine humming then spent the evening eating her dinner and relaxing.  At 8pm I ventured out - it was treat time!!!  A little party to start the week off to a good start.  I hope you all get to have a little party at the beginning of your week too.

Mum made her night a bit of a party for herself too.  She put on her comfy sheepskin slipper and put her feet up while she finished her book.  She lit some candles and has a little slice and some fruit for supper.  She is about to warm up the bedroom and get ready to snuggle down and start with a new book.  All things to warm her little heart.

Chilled

Mums plans as the weather gets better is to head out and have a walk on a Sunday - to get some fresh air and get out of the house without spending funds, although if she is up early she might walk to the cinema and catch an early showing.  She has been on call though this weekend, and that scarpers her plans.  Normally she likes to pop the headphones in and stroll the streets listening to ted talks and other podcasts on her ipod, but being on call she has to listen out for the phone and can't be too far away from work.

So nus girls had a lazy old day.  Mum slept in , read her book, made lunch, watched some shows, read her book, made dinner, made family phone calls , watched some more shows and read her book.  Then the day was over and it was time to head to bed.

Me - well I went from the bed, to the couch, to the deck outside, to the bed, back to the couch then off to bed.

Good on us.

Caturday Movie Day

Happy Caturday my kitties, hope you are all having a fabulous day.  Mum had a crazy night of sleeping, she had trouble falling asleep then woke up at 4am still sitting up on her three pillows she uses for reading before sleep with the light still on. So back to sleep but woke up again at 6.30 am coughing like crazy.  Up again at 7.30am.   So she slowly got dressed and wasted away the morning, just doing a few chores.

The mumster then headed into town and dropped some books off at the library, before meeting up with her lovely niece. Miss Belle was tired, but was pleased to have a study break and mum took her to the movies to see Trainwreck.

The girls enjoyed this movie, they haven't laughed so much in ages.  It is a quite grown up movie with  quite a few sex scenes and discussions, but don't worry Miss Belle is a grown up 19 year old now, and mum is old enough to handle it too.  We are sure that most of you have heard about this movie, but for those who haven't Amy is a magazine journalist who has had lots of flings with guys over the years.  When she is sent to interview a sports medicine Dr, she finds herself having to confront all the things she has believed in over the years.  Anyway, as far as rom coms go it felt fresh and we loved that the main characters were normal gorgeous people, not model turned actors.

During the week we watched the Caturday video again - still makes us smile years later.  So mum and I thought we would share it again here.  Mum was home by 6pm, in time for mum to reheat leftovers in the microwave for dinner and sit on the couch for the evening.  Woo hoo - hope you are all having fun too.

Friday Night Middle Aged Lady Fun

  • This awesome Tardis Cat Box from ETSY seller Cacoa Furniture.  For all the sci fi fans.  Mum has never been into Dr Who.  It scared her as a kid. she used to hide behind the couch when it was on at the weekend in the 1970s.  It was on tele after Follyfoot Farm which was even scarier.
  • Washing the towels and bath mats on a Friday night.  Mum wonders if her 20 year old self thought she would be happy doing chores on a Friday night.
  • Nodding off on the couch while the voice is on.  It was only 7.45pm - but hey mum has had a busy week at work.
  • Still sitting in her work uniform at 11:30pm at night, cos mum was tired and forgot to change clothes when she got home.
Have a great Friday everybuddy - hope you are ready for a fab weekend ahead.

Thankful Thursday

I have had a thankful Thursday.  Thankful that mum got home at a reasonable time tonight, cos I had eaten all of my crunchie biscuits and was famished.  Thankful that the temperatures have not been so cold, and I have a big cuddy mum to snuggle with at night.  She gave me my feast, and made herself a big healthy veg and pork stir fry with some rice.  Mum and me played with my toy mousie this afternoon.   Thankful for all of our friends blogs so we have something interesting to read, and thankful today to see the sun.  How we have missed it after a week of cold and rain, and more rain to come at the weekend.  Most of all we are thankful that it is Friday tomorrow - awesome!!

Sorry Mum

Hi Mum,
Sorry you had to come home to a big pile of spew on your rug.  Sorry that you had been shopping and had to put the groceries down, even though you had to carry them in the rain.  Sorry that even though I chucked up my lunch, I was still desperate for dinner.  I is going to lie on the bed for 20 hours and think about what I did - maybe.

love
Poppy

Nest Mess

Mum couldn't find  when she was making the bed, and thought I might be hiding as it was soo cold.  It was just that I had found the pile of bedding on the floor and was all snuggled up in the middle.  Mum will be glad when the weather warms up a bit more, so that we can get some colorful bedding back on the bed.

A quiet evening for us ladies.  Mum watched kiwi masterchef, she made herself a stirfry for dinner with bacon, veg and noodles.  Mmmmm tasty. Then she had some kiwifruit, cos they are pretty cheap at the  moment, and  she loves them.   I had a dine for dinner and I was happy.  The blankies are back on the bed and we are ready to go.

Sedentary Sunday

The mercury was not climbing today in the middle of our polar blast, so mum declared it a sedentary Sunday.  She did make it our of her pjs into into her fleecy pants.  A woolly jumper and sheepskin slippers completed her lovely outfit.

She then spent two hours figuring out her apple tv and waiting for Selma to load, so that she could watch.  Awesome movie, very moving.  I stayed on the bed and she stayed on the couch, she acted like she was a cat and did not move much, except to head to the couch or bathroom, or to pop in and give me a pat.

Books + Movies + Cats - the best way to spend a Sunday.

Aunty Caturday

Just when the blossoms are appearing on the trees outside and we have heard that spring lambs have been arriving too, we get a reminder that Winter is not done with us yet.  It was a chilly old day, and a cold night here, so we are all hunkered down with the heaters on.

One of mums besties had invited the mumster to come with her to another friends house.  This friend was hosting an Aunties day, for all the ladies she knew who don't have kids of their own, but are great anunties to their nieces and nephews.  There was Champagne, and there were fancy tea cups with lots of lovely tea and lots of nibbles, some chirizo and basil pastries, Salmon filo pies, egg sandwiches, chicken and almond sandwiches, cheese and crackers, chocolates, lemon tarts, mini cupcakes and chocolate mousse.  The best thing was that they were all served super small, so you could try everything to get a little taste.

They had a roaring fire and a very friendly pussy cat who came and cuddled with everyone, how brave!!  They also have an old girl who was curled up in the bathroom, as it has a heated floor, and her little bed was tucked in beside the bath - sweet.

Anyway it was a lovely afternoon tea, and all the girls had a good old chitchat together, even though they did not know each other prior.   Mum then went off and got some groceries so that I could have a feast for my dinner, and she had some chicken and salad.

So seems it will be warmer to be in bed, so mum has got her book ready and will be under the covers by 9pm tonight.  Go mum!!!

Have a lovely Caturday my friends - hope you get to do something fun.

Middle Aged Mumsters Out til 10

My middle aged mumster and her bestie went out tonight - woop woop!  They met up to go to a film festival movie, about Yves Saint Laurent.  The best bit about it was it was cold outside and it was warm in the cinema.  The movie was terrible, very long, poorly written, with no real emotion and was a real waste of 2 and a half hours.  Mum was glad to get home - get the heater on and feed me.  The best bit about late dinner is a good long sleep on a full tummy directly after.

Hope you all have a lovely weekend planned.

Thankful Thursday

Thankful Thursday has rocked around again.  I am thankful that the photographer has left me alone for a day or two - being photographic has its price.  Mum tries to get as many shots during her days off as she can as the light is better during the day, and the good news is as spring approaches we are getting warmer longer days.

Mum made some Thai Chicken green curry with rice and peas for dinner, with some grapes for supper.  I was happy with some of my new dine dinner, it kept my tummy full for four or so hours, but at 10pm I have just popped out of the bedroom to demand my supper.

Mum found at work today about one of her colleagues she worked with ten years ago had died at home, of a heart attack aged 47.  He leaves a wife and two daughters behind.  It is no kind of age is it?

So we are thankful for good health and we think of our friends and family we have lost far too young.

Toes Tuesday

Mum says my toes are very cute and fluffy - much like the rest of me.

Monday Peeves

Mum says encountered two of her pet peeves today.
1.  Tights that get a hole in the toe that works it way like a tourniquet around said big toe, so tight you are sure it is going to fall off.  Also it was cold and mum couldn't be bothered pulling off all of her clothes to get the tights off.  Luckily when she got home, the toe was still pink and did not require amputation.  It has repaired sufficiently after a few hours in sheepskin slippers.
2.  Taking a nap with me when she got home, and then waking up and realising it was more than a nap.  The middle aged mumster checked her watch and thought it was 11.30pm when she woke up, when actually it was only 5.30pm.  Awww mum - maybe you need to get your eyes checked.

Mum was sad to hear about the death of Cilla Black today.  When the mumster was in her twenties, she lived in London, where she had lots of fun and adventures.  One of her besties friends had appeared on Blind Date the show that Cilla hosted, and the three girls were lucky enough to get tickets to seeing the show being filmed.    Anyway this was way back in the mid nineties, back when normal looking people could appear on dating shows, and there were still jobs available for 50 year old women.  The besties friend was unlucky I love, but mum admires her bravery for putting herself out there and  appearing on the show.  Mum remembers that Cilla had a great charisma and sparkle,  and kept the show entertaining and fun.

Sunday, August 2, 2015

Slow Sunday

Normally the mumster would drag herself out of bed on a Sunday and go for an enforced fresh air walk to get some exercise, and to go on a parsnip hunt at the market, but today she was laaaaazy, and stayed home and watched some shows, did some reading and perused the interwebs.
She found these most excellent cat designs at Catastrophic Creations who sell on their ETSY shop. They sure are fabulous, and apparently weight tested for girls of my build.   If we had our own place mum would definitely consider something like this for me.

Our friend Janet asked us where to find the Vikings.  Janet - we got a free trial of Lightbox for a year with our Spark account.  We have only watched one other show on the lightbox, and don't think we will bother with it next year. Like NZ Netflix we only have a few old shows on there and for the price I don't think it is worth it.  I have seen a lot of the shows they offer.  Like somebody wrote in the NZ Herald, it is like both companies had a bun fight in the video store over the boxed set and divvied it up between them.  Neither offer any recent movies, and most shows are 2-3 years old now.  We will watch this show, and then Outlander but nothing else seems that interesting.

As you can see I helped mum with the bed making last night.  It is my job to help stretch out the sheets and iron out the creases with my head.
You can see it makes me happy - I loves it!!!

Middle Aged Mumster Goes Out on Caturday Nite (and is home by 7pm)

The Middle Aged Mumster got to go out on Saturday nite tonight.   Only  because she did most of the house chores this morning, rocking the dishes, the washing and the hovering (or should that be dysoning).    To tell the truth,  she actually left the house at 2.30pm, did a circuit round the usual range of boring  shops.   Nothing of real interest, but as it was raining outside, browsing the shops was a bit of indoor exercise.

She hit a 4pm movie with a bestie.  The girls went to see Banksy, a movie about the trendy reclusive street artist who spent a month in New York, and sent the hipster instagrammers heads spinning with a scavenger hunt of finding an artwork each day.  Quite entertaining, the middle aged audience enjoyed it.  Especially the part about him selling original works one day at Central Park, where only 7 canvases were sold for $60.  A kiwi girl bought 2, with each art work worth $250,000 each.  How awesome would that be?

After the movie the middle aged mumsters hit the local Malaysian restaurant for a bit of chicken Mee Goring (spicy noodles).  Tasty, a bit light on the vegetables, the tomatoes were a slightly odd touch, but $11 it was a bit of a good deal.

Then woop woop - home by 7pm.  Middle aged ladies rocking the Saturday night out.  Now it is Saturday night in!!  Time to make the bed (my fave part of the weekend), and a few Vikings on the tv screen for the mumster.

No tummy problems today thank goodness.  The toast must have fixed it up.

Hope you all had a fabulous Caturday too.
