Happy New Years

Happy New Years to you my peeps.  Mums covid negative text got sent to her at 9 this morning  - less than 24 hours from having it.  So she just has a cough and sore chest today.  So lots of fluids and resting.

So it's a quiet night for us.  Mum is going to watch a show and have a big fruit juice with some vodka and be in bed just after 12.  I've been asleep since 8pm.  You can see me enjoying my new years eve catnip in today's photo!!  Enjoy your evening my friends.

Resting

So mum went to bed last night and had that familiar chesty feeling that she was getting sick. She didn't feel too bad getting up, but by the time she had a shower and got into work she had a headache and a sore chest.  So as soon as she could she headed home via the after hours doctor to have a covid test - then home to bed. She's pretty sure it's just a cold, and yes she is double vaxxed and boosted.

She bought one of these pulse oximeters off the internet a few weeks ago, which was cheap and is handy.  Don't worry - her sats are fine.  No temperature,  just a cough and sore chest   So mum has to isolate at home until results are back.  So no New Years Eve parties for her.

Gardening

I went outside to chew on some grass to help mum with the gardening.   I came inside before it started raining.

Chill

Mum and I chilled out again.  We're lucky here as Christmas break is four days long this year.  Especially as mum had finished night shift her sleeping is just about returning to normal.  She can nap when she needs to and can just read her book in the sun.

Merry Christmas

Ready

We're ready for Santa.  Mum finished her nightshift at 7am.  She went to the supermarket and then came home and did some chores.   Her body though wouldn't let her stay up so she climbed into bed at 10am for a couple of hours.    She then went to the library for another pile of reading.   Home made pad Thai noodles for dinner then mum watched Home Alone and Top Gun.  So now it's 11.35pm and she's wide awake, but glad to be staying home with me now.

We hope you're all ready for Santa too.  It's Christmas eve here with just a half hour til Christmas day.

Last One

There's meant to be a strawberry shortage here in NZ, right on time for Christmas.   Just about every family has pavlova with cream and strawberries.   Luckily mum got some this morning.   The supermarket was crazy busy at 8am with people stocking up.

Mum has one night shift left to go, so just one more lonely night for me.

One Down

One night shift down.  Mim did get an ok sleep.  She went to the supermarket on the way home, planning to get an Uber to take her home, so she loaded up with a couple of heavy items.  By the time she left the store it was raining and windy, and all the rides were doubled in price with huge waits.  So mum walked 3/4 of the way home and then caught the bus up the hill.  When she got inside she realized that she had forgotten to get anything  for her breakfast or to take work tonight.  She also forgot the lightbulbs she needs.

I was glad to see her and we had pats and chats before she took to her bed.  I was a good girl until 2pm when I had to wake her up to tell her something important.

Mums night shifts start tonight so I'm home alone.   Wish us both luck.

Sunshine

OMG we has sunshine the whole day from morning to evening and it was glorious.   Mum loaded up the washing line and noticed that naughty neighbor had come for a visit.

Mum felt a bit rough today, the effects  of her booster yesterday gave her a temperature and she just felt sick.  So lots of fluids snd a couple of naps helped and it is to bed soon.  So her day was a lot like mine.  She's made the bed and got her book ready.  The washing machine is already loaded for tomorrow's loads - towels and some bedding.  Mum is hoping she feels better tomorrow and can venture out, but she'll take it as it comes.

Friyay

Mum had a steady day at work.  She got her booster shot done, got books stocked up, got some treats to take for next week's night shifts  come home napped and then chatted to me.

She is desperate for a good night's sleep.  She has had a few restless ones and feels exhausted.   Fingers crossed for tonight.

Thursday

Mum enjoyed a sleep in this morning before heading off for another shift.  It went quickly and before she knew it,  it was time to head home.  She stopped into the supermarket and got some supplies.  Nothing for me - no specials on cat food today.  Now she has to put all the treats away and head to bed.

Inside

Mum stayed inside today as there were no breaks in the rain.  I enjoyed her company and the naps.  This was yesterday's overcast harbor view.

Monday

Mum was aiming for a sleep in but woke up at 7am with a tidy 4 hours of sleep.  She didn't get too many jobs done, but she did drag herself out for a walk around the waterfront and dud some window shopping.  She came home and made a chicken pad Thai noodles for her dinner.

The skies were a pretty pink tonight, but the forecast seems to be heavy rain tomorrow.   Mum is hoping there will be a break in the rain to go to the post office and library but we'll see.

Saturday Shift

Mum had another evening shift tonight so we are both having our supper at 11.30pm.  I'm having salmon fancy feast and she is having meatloaf and mash.  Tasty.

It's pouring outside again.   Mum thinks it's her fault.  She bought some new shorts last week,  and it's rained every day since.

Forecast

Mum depressed herself looking at the long term weather forecast for our city which says grey skies up til Christmas which is only 2 weeks away.

Thursday

These flowers made mum smile on the way to work this morning.   Good company and a busy shift made the work day speed by.  Now she is off to buy more groceries and come home to me - the best part of her day.

Tuesdaying

The rubbish got picked up yesterday and on the news they were talking about delays due to a lack of drivers.  Mum gets that, they just can't get grumpy at mum on the phone and blame the non pick up on her.  They did the whole suburb except our street.

Mum has booked a movie to go to yesterday, on her day off but the weather was horrid with torrential rain - a months rain in one day, so mum stayed home rather than get drenched.   Today it was not as wet, and mum is hoping to get some uniforms washed and drying.  Middle aged life is fun!!!

So there have been some nice things.  Mum had a tasty mince on toast for dinner, raspberries were on special at the supermarket,   mum and I snuggled on the bed and mum has a new book to read as she heads to bed now.

Tears

Boy mum has cried some tears over her buddies this week.  This is our friend Millie at  Darling Millie and today her mom posted that our sweet friend has been losing weight and is a bit unwell.  Millies blog was the first one that we encountered and started us into the blogging world.  We send you all of our best wishes Miss M and her mom as we tiptoe on this journey with you.

Tucker joined our friend John's home at  I Have Three Cats in 2010 as a foster and got to stay and be loved with John's other cats.  A big Roly Poly fellow we can tell how well loved he was, and we are glad he got to stay in a loving home and share his dinners with his dad, and how much he will be missed.   Rest easy Mr Tucker.

Clouds

The skies looked loaded with rain as mum came home this afternoon,  but it skimmed past our house and we just got some drizzle.  Mum went go a French Cafe for lunch with a bestie  having a pork/fennel pie and salad then a chocolate eclair.  Much more tasty than last week's lunch out.

Yesterday on mums way to work there were some anti vax/anti mask protestors outside the Governor Generals house - a whole 8 of them.  As mum waited round the corner for her bus with her mask on, a man carrying large signs came past and stepped into her personal space and  told mum that "masks were evil".  So mum told him to "piss off" and when he took a step towards her she raised her voice and told him to "go away ".

Think what you want about vaccinations or masks.  But if you come at my mum about it she is not going to stay silent about what she thinks.

Waiting

Mums on shift again tonight so I'm waiting for my dinner.

Rubbish

Thursday is rubbish day.  Mum put her recycling out on Wednesday night, and the rubbish bags out on her sleep in day at about 07.28 as she left the house in a hurry.  When she got home in the evening all the rubbish bags were still on our street.  Our street is very narrow and steep, so the big rubbish truck can't come up, just a small one is sent.  All the other streets around ours were cleared, just not ours.

So mum rung the council and got a lecture about how the bags should be out by 7am.  In the four years we have lived here mum has never seen our rubbish collected before midday.  To their credit they came and collected the general rubbish at 5.30am.  No recycling pick up though.

So mum emailed the council this morning on her way to work and again this evening when she returned home at 8pm.  What a fun game she is having!!!

First world problems huh.

Late

Mum has been trying to go bed at a reasonable time each night  but last might she watched too many tiktoks and only switched her light off after midnight.  When she woke up her watch said 07.22am, which was awkward as she normally has to leave by 07.25am.

So she brushed her hair, my furs (cos I love the hairbrush), brushed teeth and had a quick wash, put her uniform on, opened the curtains,  grabbed her lunch from the fridge, packed her bag, gave me a pat, took the rubbish bags out and got an uber - and still made it to work by 07.50  - phew.

Luckily now she has 2 evening shifts followed by 2 days off, so no alarm clocks until next week.

Chef

Mum got caught in the rain after work and the bus was running late, so she thought that she might as well get some groceries.   Broccoli is cheap and almost as big as her head and new potatoes looked promising.   So mum breaded some chicken while the vegetables were cooking.  Dinner was tasty and there's enough leftovers for the next 3 meals.  She doesn't mind eating the same thing if it's tasty.  Me too - I like the same thing every day too.

Birdie

This is my birdie toy.  Mum likes to put birdie into a little bag of catnip in the evening and then I lick it off.  I can hold Birdie with my paws too and most evenings mum will find us napping together.   Oh and the catnip gets everywhere.

Weather

Sorry if you are sick of us complaining about the weather, but mum has nothing exciting to report today.  A sleep in and an explosive clean out of her wardrobe.  It's been damp with lots of drizzle, and forecast for more of the same for the next few days.  However the nice sunshine we have been having is already killing off our grass, something we don't usually see before summer has started.

Hence mums wardrobe rotation of swapping out boots and jumpers for shorts and sandals.  I'm loving sniffing out the corners of the wardrobe and the smelly shoes in there.

Caturday

Mum and a bestie tracked around today looking at shops.  They had lunch and mum was very disappointed.  She had a brioche French toast that was coated in a caramel sauce  dressing that mum did not like and it was very over priced.  Mum has to come home as her feet were getting tired and she was ready for a rest.  She'd no sooner got in the house when it started raining, so shecwas glad to put her feet up.  She was glad to have a simple supper of potato salad and chicken.  So a quiet night for us girls.

Friday

Mum had a day off and was up early to head off to her hairdresser appointment.   She did lots of window shopping and noticed that town was busy , that combination of Black Friday sales and 4 weeks until Christmas.   She tried not to spend too much although she had seen a lamp she likes that is on sale.

She finished off with a visit to her two hotspots- the library and the supermarket.   She liked the pretty peonies on sale there, although she has never bought any as they're  not in her budget.  She did get some treats though, strawberries and blueberries for her and some foods for me.

Oh and on the bus on her way home she could not help but look at a woman wearing a winter jacket and scarf.  It's warm here people  a little windy but the sun has been shining all day.

Gdad

Today mums dad - Gdad would have turned 80.  Mum had some cake for him and said cheers.  She misses him very much and hopes he is having a drink with mum and smiling.  We love  you Gdad.

A Million Thanks

Haha mum posted this as a wordless Wednesday post and then realized that it is only Tuesday.   When she posted it she noticed that we had surpassed a million reads if our little blog.  She wanted to say thank you to each and every one of you for reading and commenting over the years.  We are  so grateful for your friendship.

Shift

Normally when mum gets home, I rush to the door to greet her.  Tonight she finished her shift and managed to get into the bedroom before I woke up.  I was nice and warm and cozy, but glad to see her and get my dinner.

Sunday Food

After yesterday's sunshine, today was a rainy one.  Mum had a little lie in and then whipped out between showers and went to the supermarket to get some groceries.   Avocados are cheap, finally down to $1 each.  So when she got home , this was her lunch - it was a toasted bagel with bacon, avo and tomato.

A quiet afternoon, reading and napping and now mum is up to make dinner.  A pork and vegetable stir fry with noodles,  enough to keep her fed the next two nights.

Me - a fancy feast at 3.30pm and biscuits to nibble on all day.  Perfect.

Slice

Can you feel the summer approaching in this photo taken this afternoon?  That special blue and cotton clouds, and it was warm too.  Mum even has her shorts and birkenstocks on.

Mum was going to have an early night last night, but she thought she would stay up to see the mini lunar eclipse.   She went out at 10pm and went for a walk around the neighborhood but could not locate the moon, it seemed hidden by the large hill behind our house.  She did stay up until 1am watching a long episode of Downton Abbey.  She's rewatching the whole series and enjoying it very much.  So she slipped outside to stand in the garden and saw the moon sitting over the flats next door.  It was big and bright and still had part of the eclipse visible.   It felt special to see something only seldom seen.

Vets

Mum got an email last week asking her to bring me back to the new vets for a followup.   I got wisked out the back straight away for a blood pressure test and some bloods got taken.  The vet was nice and did laugh when mum said that I had refused the special renal biscuits and stinky goodness.   Unfortunately they would not refund the bag of biscuits but have credited mum for the sachets.

I was pleased to get home and after all the stress I gobbled down so many biscuits that mum had to stop me, worrying that I would be sick.

The vet rung mum this afternoon and the news was not so good as my bloods were worse than 4 weeks  ago.  Mum had to hold back a tear.  She has told the vet though that she will take care of me and we will not be pursuing aggressive treatments.  Just lots of snuggles and kisses.
