Better

Today was better.  Mum has been so tired, that one hour daylight savings change is quite the adjustment.   Mum is looking forward to the next four days, no 5.44am alarm ringing.  I'll be grateful for that too.

Rain

Mum was annoyed when she couldn't find her phone this morning,  then when she could not find her rain jacket.  On her way home she got annoyed that it was spitting and she was walking and came home damp, although it started pouring down 20 minutes later.

She then burnt her rice and over salted the butter  chicken.  For her supper she had a small chocolate pudding and now thinks she is going to have gallbladder pain.

Better luck tomorrow mum.

Quiet

Today was a quieter day for mums day off.  A sleep in and then mum then went off for a wander to get some new library books.  I took some naps in a variety of spots and then bam, the day was over and the evening was here.  We are loving having the sunshine back, although more rain is forecast for us.

Spring Blue

After days of drizzle and rain, and busy work we awoke to a slightly grey sky.  It was a public holiday here as a Queens memorial day.  Mum got 3x loads of washing on the line, hoovered and made lunch and then went out for a walk as the skies cleared.

So many people were out enjoying the sunshine,  and mum did her usual harbour walk, listening to podcasts and enjoying the  views as she wandered about.  Treats at the supermarket on the way home too, some neenish tarts, strawberries and a new hazelnut chocolate to try after dinner.

Windows were opened and the evening breeze enjoyed early evening when mum heard some kids voices , and I came flying in through the cat door and hid under the bed.  A little dog came running through our backyard and the kids were trying to get him.  He was only here for a minute , but gave me a big fright,  so mum spent the evening giving me cuddles and treats and I'm fine now.

She tried going out this evening to see Jupiter which is meant to be the closest to earth in 59 years, but their is a hazy cloud cover tonight which us a shame.

Phantom

Mum woke up to another little present left in the shower from the phantom pooher.  She cleaned it up and is deciding whether it is just me freaking out that mum is on shift again.  If this is to be a regular thing she'll be offf to buy a new litter box.

Glimpse

There was a glimpse of blue sky this afternoon between the rain showers.  I rushed outside and had a quick snooze in the sun before mum went to eork.

Friday

Mum had a steady evening shift and was glad to get home to me.  She had a bit of a headache,  but once home a bit more water and a couple of treats and she feels better.

She got up to a nice surprise this morning,  I had left a little pooh in the shower.  I did this overnight a month ago.  Mum isn't sure why I have begun to do this, but she is grateful that i have chosen the shower rather than anywhere else.  It was bathroom cleaning day anyway.

Thursday

You have to soak up the rays when you can.  This week has been cooler and with rain most days.  I'm soending my time seeking some warmth.  Mum has a couple of evening shifts ahead , so she is making a list of chores to do during the day, so that her days off she is free to relax.

Farewell

It was a long night watching the funeral last night, mum only headed to bed at 4am as it ended here in New Zealand.   How amazing to watch it, a sight mum is sure she may never see again.  She loved that the corgis and her horse Emma were included.  Mum things how long a day it must have been for everyone,  with little chance for even a quick break. A fitting farewell for the Queen.

Monday

Mum worked today, came home and took a nap so that she can stay up to watch.  She liked that the flowers on top were from the palace gardens.

Window Shopping

Mum got washing on the line, then met a bestie for brunch.  She had a tasty beef, bacon and mushroom pie and a chocolate eclair- double pastry is always good.  She walked off the carbs for a while, and stopped by the fabric store.  She was almost tempted to buy some linen to make a skirt, but remembered that she hasn't used her sewing machine in 10 years, she gave her sewing machine away and she seldom wears skirts.  So she walked away, and got herself a couple of treats.

Tonight after a tasty dinner, the washing is in and mum watched a show called Life After Life, that she recorded.  It was so good, she would highly recommend.   Based on a Kate Arkinson novel, it is the story of Ursula, who born in 1910 finds her life lived over and over again, each time with a different ending.

So off to bed now, mum has sn early start on Monday and needs to prepare for staying up for the Queens funeral, which we get to see on Monday night here.

Evening

It's still cool in the evenings here, but the mornings are getting much lighter.   Mum may not quite soring out if bed but the light snd burdsong make it much easier.   Mum worked this evening , but finished early enough to get groceries and spend the late evening on the couch.  Kiwifruit and a yoghurt for her supper and treats for mine.

Kowhai

These lovely yellow kowhai petals are out for only a few weeks in spring, and mum found some scattered over the pavement today.  Kowhai = Yellow.

Thursday

There are lots of photos of me sleeping,  as this takes up most of my time now.  I choose my comfy spot and curl up for the day.  I did get up and greet mum when she got home this evening,  ready for my dinner.  I'm 16 in October and winding down, as all pensioners do.

Mum continues to watch the news.  She did not expect that she would tear up about the Queen, but she finds it all terribly moving.  She's planning to stay up and watch the funeral on Monday evening.   She's planning her food and snacks,  and might dust off a bit of vodka.  She has a day off on Tuesday so can sleep in with me.

Spring Caturday

The day started of luscious and blue but within an hour of mums washing being out on the line, the clouds had gathered and started raining.   Luckily mum grabbed it all in and piled it on the drying rack before it had soaked through.

Today was a day of pottering round at home, her night shift sleep patterns are returning to normal and I am assisting with her napping.  She is enjoying her weekend off. Me too mum.

Queenie

Bless her, working right up until the end. I do wish she had more time to pat her ponies and walk her dogs.  It's weird isn't  it? It's like your own nana has died.

Questions

We got asked a couple of questions in the past couple of days.  In New Zealand it is early spring here.  On Monday we had hail and sleet, with light snow on the hills and 1 deg C.  By weds afternoon when mum took these pictures , it was a windy but warm 14 deg C, and a lovely walk was had in the sun.  Mums trying go enjoy the sunshine, and get her butt moving for an hour or so on nice days.

I got asked about my arthritis injections.  I have arthritis in my fight back leg and sometimes walk a bit slowly, but i am a senior 15 year old.  I have been having cartrophin injections every two months for about 4 years (a small injection in the scruff of my neck).  Mum is not quite convinced that they add much to my mobility, and is considering stopping them.  She would like to reduce my vet visits and simplify my life.

Leanne, our William Morris Strawberry Thief quilt was bought from Bed, bath 'n'table.  It is the coverlet and is thick and warm and I think still available.   Mum also got pillowcases,  and they have a duvet cover in it as well.

Catnapped

I got catnapped this morning to go to the vet.  I have to have an arthritis injection every two months.  I also got my vaccination and my least favorite, a temperature check and a bit of a tummy shave as I had a couple of mats on my tummy that I wouldn't let my mum brush out.  Mum did refuse a blood test for me.  She knows I have renal disease, and she is not going the aggressive route, so no unnecessary testing for me.

We had a cold night last night.  When we went to bed it was hailing outside and the coldest night of our year.  A southerly for us blows cild and storms up from the Antarctic,  and it was a chilly morning.  When we were waiting for our uber home it was sleeting, although by 3pm the clouds had gone it is another chilly evening.

Over

Nightshift is over for this week and today was a lazy day where mum drifted in and out of bed.  It didn't feel like spring, as s southerly storm arrived bringing cold and rain.  Mum was a coward and avoided an afternoon walk and stayed inside instead.

She enjoyed the new spring flowers at the supermarket entrance.  The bright pops of colour are welcome.

Sunday

Today i woke mum up very loudly at midday with my persistent meowing.   As soon as she got up I headed outside to sleep in the sun.  She had some lunch, and then went back to bed for some more night shift sleep.  Mum is glad it is her third and  final night tonight, so she can get back to normal sleeping.

Annoyed

Mum is on night shift again snd i was somewhat annoyed that she was in my bed all day.  I had repeated attempts at waking her up, until i took over at 4pm.  Mum is hoping that tomorrow is better and we figure out a truce.

Walking

As the weather is getting better mum is trying to take herself out walking more often   Yesterday she was off to the local beach, just a 20 minute walk from our house.   Her legs are a bit sore today and she got a big blister from her new sneakers.  It was good for her mental health and she enjoyed the fresh air, although it was a bit windy.  Spring is getting here.
