Wintering

It's cold and rainy here so mum found a photo from a few months ago when the sun was warm and pouring through my bedroom window.

Mum worked an afternoon shift today.  She had been taking a taxi home after late shifts but after 3 lates last week she had been waiting up to 45 minutes in the cold for a taxi to arrive.  So today she gave in and used Uber instead.  Half the price and only a 5 minute wait to get picked up.  While she feels bad for not supporting the local taxi drivers, Covid has changed so much with less drivers around and few wanting to take her the short ride home.

Helper

I helped mum sort out some items this morning.   A pile of stuff for recycling and some stuff for the charity shop.  She let me flatten out this cardboard for a couple of hours.  Good on you mum.

Caturday

What a sleep in.  Mum refused to have an alarm go on this morning and slept in until 9.45am.  Then it was shower time, dishes, washing, lunchtime and then it was 3pm and dinner time for me.  Lights on, candles lit and making chicken Alfredo for her, Call the Midwife and time for bedtime again.

Friyay

It's Friyay and we're glad.   The clouds are gathering outside and we are expecting some rain.  Rainy weekend plan may have to be put into action.

Supermoon

Last night was the red supermoom.  We had a perfect autumnal night with cleat skies but super cold.  Mum got home at 9pm and went outside at 11pm to stand on the street to watch the eclipse, lots of neighborswere out too.  Mum tried to take a photo but her samsung was not up for the challenge.   The only shot she got was this morning just as the moon disappeared.

Working

Mums working late again.   There was a little bit of sunshine on her way to work this afternoon.   Better than yesterday which was stormy and very chilly.

Chill

It's feeling like winter today.   Best I stay in my little warmed bed until mum gets home.

Reading

Mum used to write in her other blog about the movies she went to and the books she read, but Covid made her take a break.  Her book reading has slowed down a bit.  She finished this book this morning and she gave it a 5/5.  She could not wait to sit down to read it each night.

Hamnet by Maggie O'Farrell is the story about the son of William Shakespeare and his young life.  Focused mainly on his story and the story of his mother Agnes, his famous father is mostly absent.  There are some beautiful and tragically sad scenes in this book, and it has been some time since mum has enjoyed a book so much.

Caturday

I had a lonely Caturday.   Mums alarm went off at 5.44am to get her to work early.  So I was in charge of the house.  Time to spread some furs waiting for her to come home.

Fridayze

I was glad when mum got home tonight.  It is hard for her to capture happy photos of me as I live a quiet life.  When she got her key in the lock I had my nose pressed up to the door to greet her, calling out to her.  First stop for middle aged lady mum is usually the loo, then straight to dishing out my dinner.  I got extra temptations tonight so I was super happy.  Friday is going well my friends.

Thursday

I'm taking the time to enjoy the outdoors while the weather is settled.   We're only four weeks away from our winter solstice and the shortest day and our days will get longer.  As you can see the back lawn is green and lush.

Mum is tired.  A busy shift and now on call overnight until 7am and then an early shift tomorrow.   Time to relax tonight though for an hour.  A couple of treats on the couch before she heads to bed to read for a while and we get our last snuggle on.

Grass

You saw my movie at the weekend of me chewing on the green grass in the weekend.   It's something I like to do.  Mum thinks I like it because it's tasty.  I'm seldom sick after eating grass, mum thinks I like the roughage and need my fiber.  Just like she needs to eat her greens too.

Autumnal Evening

After a rainy but warm day the skies are clearing, dragging in the cooler weather.  Streaks of Grey and orange lit up the skies before it got dark tonight.
Mum tries to keep dinner simple and quick, tonight was a simple tray bake.  Kumera and sausages baked for 20 minutes, then chopped broccoli, red onion +red pepper mixed in.  Olive oil and lemon squeezed on top with salt and pepper and back into the oven for another 20.  Mum said it was delicious and gave her leftovers for another meal.

I had a feast - it was a good one with lots of gravy.  Time to snooze now.

Sunday

Well it's been a quiet day here.  Mum stayed home with me and we just chilled.  It was windy and cool outside and mum put her slippers on and didn't move further than from the bedroom to the living room.  She did venture outside to put the rubbish out and to feed the birds.

I had a quiet day today too and did much the same as mum.  Purrfect.

Signs of Winter

So there have been signs of winter creeping in.  It could be the dark mornings or nights, it could be the coldest night of the year.  Mum says it is me rediscovering my heated bed.  First time mum has plugged it in since October 2020.   I have been in it all night and all day.

Glow

On the way to work this morning there was a large rainbow sitting right over mums side of town.  Such a pretty sight to start the day.

Chicken

Mum was at her friends house last week and saw there beautiful chicken just sitting quietly in the garden.  Such beautiful feathers, mum never knew that chickens could have such dark iridescent plumage.

Sunday

Mum took this picture on her way to work during the week.  This morning it was not quite so clear.  At 6.20am as she left, it was drizzling and dark.  Still its only a 30minute walk to work.  Time to listen to a podcast and think about the supermarket shopping list.  Mmmm - nachos for dinner.

Caturday

Another quiet Caturday here at chez Q.  Mum was working the early shift up at 5am.  Still she was home with her dinner at 4pm which was nice as early tea for me too.  It avoids the junk food feasting if she eats early.

Chilling

Just chilling here on a Friday.  Mum worked I slept.  Mum had soup and toast for dinner and has been nodding off on the couch, so she is off to bed at 8.30pm as she has to be up early for work on Saturday morning.

Change

The weather has been lovely the past week with warm sunny days and frosty nights.  Today was the first rain in some time, but it was only a light drizzle and didn't last too long.  Mum used it as an excuse to not do too much.

She almost missed getting the recycling out in time this morning.   She may have heard the truck pull up and had to chase it a bit to get her two bags in.  Good one mum.

Window

Mum had a day off today   I got dragged to the vet for my arthritis injection.  So I came home and sulked for 8 hours.  Mum did the chores and then rewarded herself with a library visit and then went to the movies to see Nomadland.  She enjoyed it, but wouldn't rave about it - 3.5/5.  On the way home she saw this little window.  Cute!!

Delivery

Well that's a surprise.  Mum got home tonight and the new electric blanket had been delivered.   She only ordered it on Sunday an and it was here by Monday.  Good job Briscoes.  I was so snuggled up on mums bed tonight that mum didn't want to disturb me and she will put it on the bed tomorrow.

Frozen

Last night was the chilliest of the year for us with the mercury dropping to 6degC .  We know our Canadian/Russian/Swedish friends may mock our shivering but it is chilly for us.  Mum had switched the electric blanket on but when she popped into bed it was stone cold.  It appeared that it chose this particular night to die.  Even I climbed between mums knees for a snooze for 30 minutes, the first knee snuggle of the year.

Mum got straight onto the Briscoes website and doing the electric blankets were half price this weekend, so a replacement was ordered (they are always having a weekend sale so no one pays full price there).  And hallelujah she got an email to say that her order has been packed and sent.  So we're on parcel watch.

Bounty

More fruits from the autumn harvest - passionfruit from our garden.  Mum didn't get to have any last year as the painters took them all.  They are sweet and mum is enjoying them as there will be none left on the vine by next week.

It's a quiet night tonight as mum has to work in the morning  and it's frosty tonight.  So after Call the Midwife she's off to bed with her book.
