Here I am begging for a few more chicken temptations on mums bed this chilly Sunday afternoon.
Mum went to see Eat, Pray, Love last night. It was ok - she had low expectations, because she had heard lots about it, so she enjoyed it and anything beats watching NZ tv at the weekend. She liked Julia Roberts, and the scenery was beautiful and although she had been told it was long, she didn't find it to bad.
So mum got home at 11pm, fed me, and at 11.10pm I had a bit of a sick up of my dinner on the kitchen rug - nice!! I feel better today, and mum isn't too worried as I am not often sick.
In fact she has me booked for my yearly at the V-E-T on Tuesday anyways. She was going to ask about the yearly vaccinations, as recent publications from our consumer organisation, says that yearly boosters shouldn't be needed in cats. Does anybuddy have an opinion on that? Do you all get yearly shots? Let me know.
I am glad she fed you promptly and I hope you don't sick up any more!
ReplyDeleteWe hope you are feeling better Poppy...We get Rabies and Distemper shots, but Mommy Cat and Daddy Cat also got vaccinations against feline leukemia since they were around possible carrier kitties outside...When Mom's kitty before us, Nikki, was older (from 15-20), she only got Distemper since she was indoors and Mom was worried about the Rabies vaccine being so hard on her system...Good luck on your vet visit, sweetie...Happy Halloween, beautiful girl...kisses...Calle, Halle, Sukki
ReplyDeleteHello Poppy Q,
ReplyDeleteNice to meet you today, I'm Puddy, I just been adopted last september and tomorrow, I have to go do annual vaccination with my new family for the first time of them, Second time of me.
The VET is going to do 2 shots for me
First shot is Fel-o-Vax3 , this vaccinated against Rhinotracheitis and Calicivirus
and the second shot is Fel-O-Vex FIV for against Enteritis and FIV
But seriously, I think tomorrow I plan to hide...he..hee..hee...wish me a luck !
Puddy
By the way, I live in Australia
Everyday Mr Puddy
Poppy, momma only has be vaccinated again every 3 years. I am indoors all the time and those shots make me soooo sick. Mommy does NOT like me to have them at all.
ReplyDeleteExcellent work on the yak, Poppy.
ReplyDeleteWe do not do yearly shots as we are indoors-only, except for The Baby's supervised excursions.
Feel better, Poppy!
ReplyDeleteI do get yearly shots. The vet has also been doing blood work on me the past few years since I'm a senior kitty now.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are feeling better.
ooo, being sick is not good, we hope you are feeling much better today!
ReplyDeleteWe are indoor cats so we do not get vaccinated every year. We are probably supposed to get vaccinated every three years, but my human is even lax about that - unless there is a real need for it, she feels that less vaccinations are better. Binga especially reacts badly to the vaccinations. It makes her sick for a few days. Since you go outdoors Poppy, you do need them regularly, but maybe not every year. Feel better!
ReplyDeleteWe boys were vaccinated as kittens, and Nicki vaccinated once again, after he was adopted. Annie was vaccinated yearly for 6 years, but hasn't been since. Our mom is very concerned about vaccine-related cancers. Protocol coming out out of top vet research in the U.S. now says vaccinations should be done NO MORE than every 3 years.
ReplyDeleteNow, if were roaming cats, we'd be vaccinated per the new protocol. But since we don't roam, Mom is not taking any chances with us.
It's a huge and easy money-maker for vets, those annual vaccinations. But the immunity doesn't suddenly expire 12 months to the day of getting a shot, so we suspect a lot of it is a racket.
BTW, the rabies vaccine is the worst, our mom understands, for leading to cancer. The odds are higher that a kitty in our area will die from cancer from the vaccine than will contract rabies.
Being an indoor kitty, Tofu doesn't get yearly vaccinations. He was given his kitten vaccinations (excluding rabies) and that was it. Having said that, Jemma is a dog who goes outside daily and she hasn't had vaccines in at least 5 years now. I am really concerned about over-vaccinating our pets.
ReplyDeleteSince Poppy goes outdoors, I would take a little pre-caution and have the vet run a titer test on her for immunity/antibody levels. The test is not foolproof like most everything else, but it's the least that can be done if one chooses not to (over)vaccinate yearly. My dog does get titer testing yearly and so far, the tests show her immunity is still good after 5 years.
Happy Halloween Poppy Q!
ReplyDeleteHya Poppy. Sorry you was sick but glad you are ok.. I have to get my injections every year as mum says better safe than sorry. I am sure your vet will sort out what is best for you. Hugs GJ xx
ReplyDeleteMomma stretches our vaccinations out to about every 18 months, even though our state laws say a rabies vaccine every 12 months. Momma says unless the state is paying for it... hahahaha!
ReplyDeleteOur Vets recommend that 2 of the shots only be administered every 3-4 years, but we don't remember which ones... maybe feline leukemia and feline HIV, especially since we don't go outside. (Then for older cats, not at all any more.)
We have sick ups from goblin' up our foods too fast sometimes. Momma doesn't worry about that at all.
I hope you get plenty of treats PoppyQ! I agree with Jacqueline on the sticky shot things!
ReplyDeleteI go to the vet once a year for a check up and get whatever she recommends. So, yes, I do get yearly shots- just can't say for sure which ones. I believe one of them is good for 3 years.
ReplyDeleteWe get all of our recommended shots, even though we are indoor cats ... just in case we ever get out, mommy and daddy say. Sammy and Maggie are seniors, so they get blood work every year, too.
ReplyDeleteSort of depends on where you are and what your local authorities say. Mum says that the only reason we get vacinated is that so she can send us to the kittie spa overnight. They wouldn't take us otherwise.
ReplyDeleteComplicated question. Those of us that travel in cabin with mum on flights do get shots. The rest of us don't since one of our brothers did get the rapidly growing cancer at this injection site. It was metastatic. Too late to even take off the leg to save his life. Our vet who we all see for our yearly exam and blood draws, told us it is necessary for "outies" and at the owners discretion for strictly "Inies" ( we are total inies). If we went outside and came into contact with other cats, their urine, stool or saliva, we would be vaccinated
ReplyDeleteMy kids are indoors and don't get yearly felv/Fiv vaccination.
ReplyDeleteI like Julia Roberts, too, but I did not go see Eat, Play, Love. I think I will wait until it is shown on TV. But the scenery looked good on preview. I sure want to watch it some day.
We have cut way back on vaccinations. Our oldest, Tucker, no longer gets them because of his asthma. Benny has had reactions to them (vomiting, inflammation, diarrhea), so we no longer give him any either. Sadie had her initial rounds as a kitten, then I got her a rabies last winter. She is now 2 and I am not sure if I will vaccinate her this year.
ReplyDeleteIf you've had vaccines before, Poppy, ask your vet about getting a titer panel done. It is bloodwork and will show your immunity to all the diseases. We had one done for Tucker, five years after not getting any vaccines, and he still showed immunity to everything. It costs about $100 American.
WE get shots every 3 years. Momy thinks its important to have rabies shots since we live in the country and there are racoons and possums about and we get the distemper then too. Most of us stay in all the time and some go out but all come in at some point in the day (usually at night) so she can tell if anyone is feeling poorly or needs a VET visit ..
