Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet Week

This week is Adopt a Less Adoptable Pet week, that means to take a chance on an older pet, one with a mild disability or maybe one who prefers to be your one and only. Mum thinks it is a great promotion, and she loves the idea she heard about a couple of years ago. It is where a shelter in the UK, pairs older unwanted cats and dogs, with older adoptee parents, who may not want to take on a young pet. They also promise to take back the pet if the parent gets ill. That way a lovee may get to have a good home for a few years or the rest of their live, rather than living in a cage.

Anyways these two sweeties are at the local SPCA, here in Newtown, Wellington, NZ. We know that many of you don't live close - but please meet:

Titaina - she has been in the spca since sept 2009. She is described as a sweet girl who is just a bit shy. She would like to be adopted out to a quieter home without young children. She doesn't mind other cats, as long as they are nice to her.

This is Sophie, and she has been at the SPCA since May. Doesn't she look like me!!!
She is described as being a beautiful affectionate girl, who is far too cuddly for her own good, and therefore needs to lose some weight (oh sister - surely we are twins!!). She needs an owner who isn't tempted to give her treats, and will help her lose some of her cuddliness.

We wish that every shelter kitty could find a person to love, and somewhere warm and sunny to sleep.

  3. It's sad that such nice kitties would have to spend so much time at the spca without a home. Paws crossed that they come to the attention of somebody out there who can adopt them!

  4. I love seeing those sweet babies. I am grateful that they have a home though..even though I so deeply wish they could have a furrever home of their own.

  5. I will hope and pray that they both soon find a loving home. There are so many out there that need homes and every summer it seems that the shelters fill up faster and find less homes. It breaks my heart to see how irresponsible people are to unload their cat on a whim. Thank you for helping by posting them on your blog. It all helps. Hugs, Deb =^..^=x5

  7. Yeah we are both shelter cats, a new home and a new life. Both of us, this is our second home. Also, our shelter will take us back, actually wants us back, if for any reason mum thinks she would have to find us a new home.

  9. Mum says special needs kitties are just that: special. Right now we have, of various combinations: aged, ,front leg tripod, missing back foot, hearing and visually impaired. We were all considered less adoptable. Mum fell in love with each of us for us; she didnt get hung up on the "perfect' thing.
She always says we aren't perfect, but we're perfect for her.
Thank you for being the voice of those of us who are still waiting for our forever home..
