Mondayitis

Mum had a bit of Mondayitis today at work. All the talk was about the earthquake, and everybody at works families are ok. Some lost chimneys, and one nice ladies daughter has lost her house, due to the destruction. On the tv news tonight they think that about 100,000 homes had damage to them (that is half of the homes in the city). People were lucky though, with only two serious injuries, and one person dying of a heart attack at the time.

Christchurch is a lovely town with lots of old buildings (for New Zealand), and because many of them were brick or stone, quite a few in the city centre will be demolished in the next few days. Schools and lots of businesses are closed while they get sorted out.

Hope you all have a lovely Monday.

  5. It is so sad to loose the older buildings. A part of the town's character that cannot be replaced. But we are certainly thankful so many people survived unharmed. Thank-you for keeping us updated on the quake's aftermath.

  8. We're so sad for the damages, but grateful there were not many injuries. Iz much easier to rebuild a building than a person or a pet! Srsly.

  12. It's stressful to have a big quake! Our Moms lived in San Francisco in 1989 when there was a big quake there. Tell your Mom we are purring that her friends and co-workers lives get back to normal soon.

  16. We are thankful that so few people were hurt. We had a small temblor 2 years ago and now there's a long crack running down the hall tiles. And that one was "only" a 3.4, we cannot imagine a 7.2 or greater!

  18. That was a terrible earthquake and I am concerned for the aftershocks. It is so tragic and sad that happened. Ours are only 3 or 4 around here and just are noticeable.

I am sending prayers to all those who have been impacted and thankfulness that it spared so many and that the injuries and death were no worse than they were.

  20. Here in southern California, we are very earthquake prone, and there are very few brick buildings. I feel very sad for the humans who lost their homes in Christchurch, and it sounds like they are also losing a lot of very lovely old architecture.
