Day Off
Mum took advantage of the morning sunshine to do some washing, tidy a few things and sit in the garden. Her peace was disturbed by builders next doir who are replacing windows and doors in the flats next to us. A young group, they are fast and polite.
Once the chores were done, mum went in search of treats for me, a new pile of library books and groceries. After the cyclone shelves are a little empty and of course prices have risen again. Mum though shopped a few specials, and now shops at several supermarkets to find more bargains.
So it was nice to have the afternoon together. A wee nap and an evening pottering about. Perfect.

Another Saturday and mum is working. It's raining outside, so I'm snoozing, waiting for her to come home.

Afternooning
I was puckerooed this afternoon. Mum took me on a stealth VET visit this morning. I was fast adlerp and next thing I knew I was in my carrier and we were off in the Uber. I got poked at both ends, same weight and i got a big shave. At 16 my furs have been getting a bit knotty and I don't like mum to brush my legs.
So door to door was a quick 40 minutes. I came home and meowed at mum, took a big poop in the shower and then went for a big sleep. AWESOME!!

Stripped
Mum stripped the bed and I spent the day snoozing on the mattress cover, and was somewhat annoyed when she wanted to put the sheets and covers back on the bed.

Summer Clicking
Mum was lying on her bed reading last night, when she heard a loud clicking. A large cicada was making itself comfortable on her headboard. She managed to coax it out and put it out the window. Thank goodness, as there would have been a restless night for her. Me - I was snoozing in the spare room.

Monday
The sun is shifting slightly as the summer is easing. Our garden is still pretty green after all the rain. We're waiting for the mower man to come, paws crossed for tomorrow.

Clean Up
After the cyclone on Tuesday, one of the hardest hit regions is the Hawkes Bay an area that mum grew up in. Large parts of it were hugely flooded, with the water rising up to peoples ceilings quickly. People had to escape onto the roof and wait to be rescued and many people lost everything. Around the country there have been 9 deaths, and we hope not too many more.
Mums family and friends are safe, but cut off in Napier as most bridges were destroyed. Power stations were blown out and petrol supplies can't get through. The navy have come to help bringing supplies and generators to town. We are lucky though, compared to the losses in Turkiye and Syria we know how lucky we are. So many stories of Kiwis helping each other out.

Wednesday
I was glad when mum got home this evening, it was raining again and windy. We also had a 6.3 earthquake tonight, that was long and centered close to us, although no damage anywhere. You better leave us alone Mother Nature, please send us some calm and sunshine.

Happy Valentines Day
Not feeling very festive today here in New Zealand. Mum saw these roses in the shops yesterday and thaught that they were pretty.
The cyclone has flooded much of the top half of New Zealand, with bad flooding in Napier/Hastings particularly in the area where mums parents used to live, as well as Auckland, Northland, Gisborne and the Bay of Plenty. We hope their spot at the cemetery is ok. Its up high on a hill so should be fine. Watching the news shows lots of devastation to good farm land and orchards. Food prices will rise even more!!
Luckily mum had the day off to relax with me. As soon as she got up she rang the vet to rearrange my arthritis injection from today to next week, silly to go out in the storm if not urgent. We have just had light rain and wind all day, but we are ok. We live up on a hill, so the rain doesn't flood here. We'll be hoping this weather blows over soon. Happy Valentines Day to you all friends.

Monday
Mum was glad to have today off after working the weekend. The morning was nice and washing was even put outside, while mum ran into town to do some chores. As she headed home after a sushi lunch, it started spitting snd she rescued the washing off the line in time.
The storm has been beating down in cities snd towns further north of us, and mum was surprised to see such a pretty sunset here tonight. Close to midnight now and the wind is picking up. We're safe where we are up on a solid rock hill and sheltered by much of the weather.

We've enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend, which is good as a cyclone is approaching. Its currently north of us, so at 11.40pm its still calm here. All quiet at the house of Q.

City
Isn't the news about the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria terrible? Mum luckily spent 3 weeks traveling through Turkey decades ago. It was a beautiful place with friendly and humble people, and mum hopes that the earthquakes end soon, so that families can live safely again.

Friday
Mum made it to the cinema today to see The Lost King, the movie she missed last week as she got her times wrong . She went early, and got some fries and a milkshake for her lunch. When she got into the cinema she was the only one there, although was joined by another two solo viewers. Mum was a bit tired after her night out, and nodded off during the movie, but didn't miss too much.
By the time mum left the movie theater, the cloudy muggy day had cleared into sunshine. Mum got some coleslaw and chicken for healthy wraps for dinner. I was glad to see her, and tolerated a fur brushing before my dinner.

Big Night Out
Mum had a big night out. She went with a bestie to see Ed Sheeran. It was an amazing show with such a talented performer and mum is hoarse from singing. They had great seats and after a soggy week, it was a lovely summers evening. It was superior people watching, and an all round elite evening.
