Long Day

Mums day started early this morning.  A 7am start means getting up at 5am and there weren't many people up in our street, every one was still snoozing.   The good thing about an early start is the early finish.  Mum visited the supermarket  (she loves to go there), and then walked home with the groceries, which is a good bit of exercise for the day.  Speaking of which, mum watched a programme about aging well this week.  They tested one group of pensioners who worked out on exercycles against a group who danced for a half hour a day, 3 times a week.  The group who danced tested with better muscle development and balance than the other group.  So mum is thinking that when the weather gets too rough for walking in the winter, she will turn on the music and dance.

Me - well I will be busy sleeping.

    idea Poppy!x Sleep! :).
Though they say swimming is the
best form of exercise of all....
Apparently you use all your muscles
in your body! Keeps you fitter!

  4. Poppy, dear, please tell your mum to Google "1920s Flapper Doris Eaton" on YouTube. You'll see this lady dancing in an early sound film -- and performing at 100+. A friend of a friend who knew her said she rehearsed every week at a studio and was learning a new routine at 103.

My favorite of her interview quotes: "How have your performances changed over the years, Miss Eaton?" "Well, dear, I do wear more clothes."

  5. I ride a bicycle every day and am in fairly good shape, but I can see how dancing would be better. It probably includes more of the body in the exercise, and it definitely requires more balance and grace.

  8. Dancing is fun, anything that keeps you on your feet and going is good for you.

  9. I had just seen on TV that supposedly, jumping will help with maintaining one bone health better than most anything. I started yesterday. Today, every joint hurts! Hips, knees, ankles. Neck, spine too. After reading your post , I found Boogie for Your Bones. Take a look. Much more realistic the crazy jumping!
