Trick or Treat!!

Happy Halloween everybuddy.  We don't really celebrate here in NZ, although every year it gains in popularity.  Back in the dark ages when the mumster was at school, they were taught that it was an American tradition, but mums school had a Halloween competition and dance.  Mum does remember only telling her mum and dad a couple of days before, so there was a rushed visit to the shops for material and a witches dress and cloak were made.  A paper mache hat was moulded and painted.  Mum won some sweets, and she got a lot of wear out of that outfit, but no photos exist that she knows of.

Another rainy, windy and cold spring day here, we sure are sick of the poor weather we have been having.  Mum did decide though that she should crack open the recipe books, as she has been a bored by her cooking lately.  She tried a Jamie Oliver 30 minute recipe of Pork chops with potatoes and cabbage.  She didn't add the mint sauce to the cabbage like Jamie said - yuck!!  She loved the potatoes, they were cooked with lemon and salt and pepper in the microwave, then grainy mustard, olive oil and parsley were added.  They tasted yummy, like restaurant style fancy potatoes.  The pork chops were ok, mum liked the addition of sage and garlic to the cooking, but is on the fence about the fennel seeds aniseed taste.  She feels good about trying something new.

Have a great night, watch something scary!!

  3. I love trying new recipes, although I don't experiment as much I used to. I mostly eat raw fruits and greens and chicken and fish now. Boring. But I'm shrinking, slowly but surely and eating healthy so it's all good!

I know you're not on facebook and I'm not feeling much like blogging. I'll still pop in to see you but you won't be able to see much of me and the Gs, unless my blogging mood changes. :(

Hope your weather improves! Have a lovely day, lovely ladies!
