News

Well things have happened fast round here.  Mum went and saw a place yesterday, and the landlord rang last night and offered it to her.  So we have a new place and are moving in 3 weeks.

The real estate market in our city has gone bonkers , both for buying and rentals.   10 years ago people would advertise their home for rent, you could turn up and if you were presentable you could pick or choose which place you would like.

Now places get listed on line, 80 people will show up and the landlord has their choice of who they want.  Our cities paper said last week that this year there are 50% less listing service than last year.  Of the 70 places listed only 2 would allow pets too.

Our new place has a garden for me to dig around in and sleep in and we are allowed to put a cat door in.  It gets a lot more afternoon sun too.

Thanks for crossing your paws for us.

  3. Wow, that was quick, we bet your mum is relieved! Is it okay? Will she like it? Is it close enough to work? We assume yes on all counts--or at least hope it's a yes.

Your rental market is far worse than ours, and our city has a 1 or 2% vacancy rate. Not nearly as crazy as yours. We so glad things are working out, fingers and paws crossed that the move goes well at both ends. Does your mum hire a truck for the heavy stuff like couch and bed or does she have friends/family with a truck to help out?

  4. Poppy, dear, it's a relief to know your mum can stop losing sleep about finding a new home. Now, she may start losing sleep about the logistics of The Move. (Blessings on you, Julie. In our metro area, the limit is two small pets, usually at a surcharge of 50 US$/pet/month.)

  5. Thank goodness finding a new place came quickly for you and your mum. Won't a cat door be a treat!
We can't imagine packing for a move and working too, especially with your mum's schedule. We'll pray for a smooth transition for you and your mum. Moving is always a bear!

  8. We are thrilled to hear a new home is lined up so quickly! Yes, a lot of landlords don't allow pets. It doesn't seem very fair as humans can and do make a mess of rentals :(

  9. Well, I miss a lot when I don't read blogs on a weekend. I read that you were moving, and now I see that you have a new place. Thank goodness for that. I know something about the stress of having to find a place by a certain time, but your situation beats mine. It sounds terrible. Why did you have to move just because the landlord was selling? Did the new landlord not want tenants?

In any case, though your mum has the bother of moving to face, she and you at least has a new home to move into. Why is the market so crazy? You would think a smart businessman with some money would put up decent housing. he'd be able to charge a reasonable set of rents and still be guaranteed to make money.

  10. Oh no, moving is so stressful. We hope the move goes well and your new home is welcoming. Lovely to hear about you having a cat door and a garden. Our city is crazy too - many places are being let through airbnb to tourists so a shortage of homes for us boring old residents.
