Heaterbility

We have had to dust off the heater today and get some warmth into the house.  Tis a bit on the chilly size. Even though she is trying to reduce her power bills this year, we still have to warm the house on these cold nights.

Mum made herself a tasty pork chop tonight with some more mash.  She was happy as the free range pork was on sale at the supermarket.  She tries to not buy pork from factories that cage their animals.  She wishes that she were more disciplined and could be a vegetarian, but she does like meat.  She knows that our NZ grown cows and sheep get to live in the paddocks, see the blue sky and eat lots of green grass.  Not so lucky are the chickens and pigs which are factory raised.  It's a bit of a third world problem isn't it, worrying about our food, where it comes from and how it was raised.

  1. You and Mom should snuggle at night. That will help with the power bills!

We have our Mommy to worry about where our food comes from. We just worry about it getting in our tummies!

  4. My human says that one day she will really start feeling guilty about eating ANY creature and give up all meat protein. She already does not eat red meat or pork because of the horrible factory farming in the U.S., and because it's not the most healthy thing to eat. But she is having a problem giving up chicken, even though she knows they are treated horribly.

  5. Momma is also looking at ways to lessen our electricity bills, but not from using heater. Oh, gawd! From where we're at, heater is equal to heat stroke. We need to cool off our house.

Momma is also concerned about our food, where it comes from, etc. I guess your mom worries about the same things momma worries about.

  6. It's a huge issue, how food animals are raised and slaughtered. Our regular grocery stores don't carry free-range meats, but even the free-range eggs they do sell aren't necessarily "free-range," as definitions of what constitute "free-range" here are quite variable/murky.

  7. I do love my chicken and fish, and sometimes turkey. Not a beef fan, or any other kinds of meats for that matter. I actually probably could be a vegetarian, if push came to shove.

I just had baked chicken as my mid-morning snack. Protein after the gym!

Have yourselves a warm, lovely day, ladies!

  10. Mum is off almost all meat and dairy ( dairy even in baked goods) but slips up terribly with steak. Can't seem to kick the wretched stuff to the curb. If she smells it cooking on a neighbors barbecue it's enough to start the craves for days. Awful!

  11. Good of your mom to consider where her food comes from. Our mom is so last century - she eats what she likes but our bean sisfur won't eat pork anymore.

We just knows where our food comes from. The closet that mom keeps closed all the time, darn!

    Stay warm Poppy and Mom!

  12. Ahh, but at least you have plenty of food, unlike some of those third world countries. Must always be grateful for what we have, even us kitties. Purrs and hugs from the kitties at The Cat on My Head, Lily Olivia, Misty May, Mauricio, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Josette
