Happy Solstice

We hope you have had a lovely Solstice Sunday.  Here in New Zealand it is our shortest day, and the beginning of winter, whereas for most of you it is your longest day and start of summer.  It is time for aligning the sun and dancing around Stonehenge.  Mum got to go and see the stones years ago.  She was warned that they were quite disappointing, but that wasn't mums experience.  They just appear in the middle of rolling country fields and are beautiful and amazing, and their ancient magic seems to radiate from them, knowing that our ancestors maybe built the or danced around them with flowers in their hair.  For some reason mum has no photos from her visit - she must have got her friend to take the photos and got no copies.

Here it was cold and drizzling, but mum braved the elements and went out to meet two of her besties.  They tried a new restaurant that serves only pasta.  Mum got the baked mac and cheese with Italian sausage, with grilled young broccoli on the side.   It was lovely to talk with good friends, and mu went to see Love Sarah at the cinema, which was fairly full.  Town was busy with everyone out and about supporting local businesses.  It was nice to see cafes and bars full of people on a winters afternoon.

We are all disappointed that Covid is back in the country with 7 cases today, all from people returning from overseas.  We don't know how you keep it out unless you keep the borders closed.

  1. Ah! Stonehenge..goodness! Do you know Poppy!x
I live just 25 miles away from it, and, l've
only been there once, stopped off for a coffee
as l was working around that area, it was winter
time, l remember, driven past it hundreds of
times, but, only stopped the once..! :(.

I've just put a partridge in the oven, roasties,
mushrooms, and curly kale to~day, couple of games
of football on later..quiet day to~day..Lea, who
lives a couple doors away, has cut the grass out
the front, so must get him some beer when l go
    out on Tuesday..! :).

Yes! And the first two cases with Covid, where
from England, going to a funeral out there..!
Silly people, mind you, there are a lot of silly
people over here in the UK..I'm still conforming
to Lockdown..I shall feel safe..when l feel safe!

And, of course it's Fathers Day to~day..And the
longest day to..How on earth they make that out..
There's still 24hrs in the day, none extra, so
how can it be the longest..! HeHe! Bless!x

  3. Wonderful site for your mum to share the photo. I doubt I will ever
cross the ocean to see such places. Yes, we have the most sun light
today, and as I abhor cloud covered days in the winter, I am glad to see it.
But with it comes the heat and humidity. Do things outside early and enjoy
that time. Sounds like mum had a delightful meal, hope you got extra treats, Poppy.

  4. That must have been so amazing for your mum to see, Stonehenge. Incredible.

We're glad she's out enjoying herself, in spite of the new cases. We think it's a matter of having to live with the danger while taking what precautions are necessary, at least until there's a vaccine. Here in Ontario there have been fewer than 200 cases per day for some days now, and none in our area. Probably that will change as things open up. But the isolation and lockdown have been very hard for people's mental health, as well as world economies, so it's all a delicate balance. Anyway, you tell your mum to stay safe, and you two take care of each other. :-)

  5. It was warm and sunny here, for our first day of summer: a typical day of its time for southern Alberta. The real heat comes later; early summer is usually quite pleasant.

New Zealand is still doing a wonderful job with regard to covid-19. It is the responsibility of those coming from abroad to make sure they are safe.

  6. I sure would love to see Stonehenge. So glad you enjoyed your visit. We had wind but a fine weekend here up on the coast. What did you think of Love Sarah?

  7. That is a lovely photo of the sun through the stones. My mother used to take us when we were younger, and you could just go and wander around with no restrictions like there are now. We used to take a picnic and sit within the circle. It didn't get many visitors back then, probably because it was open to all 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

  8. Wow, what an amazing experience that must have been for Mum to see Stonehenge, Poppy.

We are glad Mum got too get together with friends. Even when we see see friends in a socially distant setting, it is so exciting after having been isolate for months. XO
