So while I am in hospital today resting, mum was enjoying the beautiful sunshine. She even went into the water up to her knees on a beach walk today - go mum!! Then she did some redecorating - wow a girl only goes away for a few days and everything changes!!
So mum thought as it was a new year and all, that it was time to talk about the $5 money jar. Each year mum starts a jar, and every time she gets a $5 note, she puts it aside and at the end of the year she has a pile of cash to use on treats only. In previous years she has used it to buy a painting and last year she bought a Dyson vacuum cleaner (best one ever she reckons).
Now she has already started this money jar in August. It helps that mum tries to take cash out of her account on payday and tries to budget some for groceries, market money, bills and then tries not to touch her accounts. So that is why the jar has lots of monies in it already.
We hope you can join us and make your own money jar for 2013.

We think that is a great idea about the jar. Just think of all the treats and cat toys our mom could buy us with it at the end of the year!
ReplyDeleteGood idea. Mum puts down everything she spends in a spreadsheet. That way she can tell if she is spending too much on something.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great idea! Our Mommy thinks she would probably have to use the money on kitteh-toys. MOL! Sending get-well purrs, Poppy. xoxo
ReplyDeleteWhen you See Prisoner Contagious on Monday let her know that she has a very smart Mom to be so diciplined with her monies. Poppy, you laughed at your Mom for going out to eat at the "Old ladies" time (Here in the US we call it the Early Bird Special). She saved some money by doing that and now she has the monies to pay for your cell & meds. I was really worried about your beautiful eyes. Mom is very nice to visit with you & yor fellow sickie & cellmate Gretel. Thumping your tail ay Mom will not help matters. You will be better before you know it & be giving Mom kisses because you will feel so great. Behave, take your meds & you will be home before you know it. We are purring you to wellness across the World.
ReplyDeleteThat is a great idea - I should have my human do the same thing and at the end of the year, maybe she will have enough to buy me a new cat tree!
ReplyDeleteAny way anybody saves monies is a good way!
ReplyDeleteI actually just had a chat with my 25 year old niece about budgeting, personal finances and my definition of wealth. I hope she takes notice as I totally ignored my parents and in-laws until my 40's... turns out my father-in-law really was a genius! And I wasn't.
Hope you're feeling loads better by now, Miss Pops! That will make your Mum feel better, too. xoxo
É uma grande ideia.
ReplyDeleteThat is a very good idea!
ReplyDeleteMom and I are sending purrs for Poppy Q.
Wow, what a neat idea! We'll try to get the mom and dad to try that here!
ReplyDeleteWe're happy Poppy is getting better and a $5 jar is a great idea (We live in a house that doesn't get paid the same amount every paycheck--so it can be a challenge to budget correctly....)
ReplyDeleteThank goodnes Poppy is starting to feel better. It must be hard for both of you, her being away from home. Poppy remains in our prayers. Please give her a big kiss from us. She may be angry with you, but she is getting the care she needs and she'll forgive you eventually.
ReplyDeleteWE hope you are feeling better today. Our Mom and Dad put all their coins in a jar. The credit union use to have a coin counter but now they have to roll the coins!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, where have I been. I didn't realize Poppy was in the hospital. Do get better really soon, Pop. I'm sending lots of love to you and a big hug. You poor sweet kitty. Deb
ReplyDeleteOh no! We didn't know you were in the hospital Poppy. We haven't been visiting anyone so missed hearing about it. We are sending you lots of purrs to soon feel much better and come home again.
ReplyDeleteA money jar! We are impressed! Your Mom is pretty smart :)
ReplyDeleteWe purr you keep getting better every day so you can get out of the slammer very soon !!!!!

Your mom is pretty smart.
ReplyDeleteWe hope you are doing better very soon.
Your mum is very smart Poppy! Our mom would probably dip into the jar throughout the year, 'cuz she's not very discyplined. She even forgets to feed us on time sometimes!
ReplyDeleteWe hopes you are feeling much better.

(Despite what the cats think, I do save money, but mine is at the bank in an account I can't access unless I go into the bank...otherwise I might just dip into it.)
Eileen
That's a great idea! Especially cuz it can buy so many great treats!!!
ReplyDeleteWe hope you and your mom feel better soon.

Money jar do encourage budgeting skills from a person. :) As, obviously, a money jar wouldn't be satisfying to look at without money in it. So, they make specific allotments. Doesn't it have a cover, by the way? Harriett@Bankmart
