This beautiful picture was on our local news site tonight. Southern lights (Aurora Australis) were captured in the Wairarapa on Monday night by photographer Grant Sheehan. Rarely seen this far north, solar storms whipped up the perfect view. Too cold for me and the mumster to be out and about though, we prefer to be tucked up at home when the temperatures dip to freezing.
Oh and to our Canadian friends, we hear you are having too much fun on the barbeques this summer and lots of your forests have lit up on fire. Don't worry, the NZ crews are on the way to help your teams out. It may be only 16 fire fighters, so I don't think all of your teams can take the weekend off, but we hope some help is useful.

Poppy, dear, this is a beautiful photo! I live in a rural area where we have "darker skies" but we're fortunate to see the major constellations, much less phenomena as gorgeous and as rare as this!

ReplyDeleteWe didn't realize NZ was sending firefighters. Really? We're sure the help will be appreciated beyond measure. We're lucky here where we are, but so much of the more westerly provinces are on fire, it's scary.
Any help will be appreciated; sixteen good, experienced firemen especially. We don't have fires here in southern Alberta, but we smell them all the time, and see the sunlight filtered through the smoke.

ReplyDeleteThe Southern lights are soooo pretty Poppy! We has Northern lights and they are usually blue and green, only sometimes red and yellow. Of course when they're out it's too cold for us too.
ReplyDeleteMom bean says hooray for more firefighters! We has over a hunnert fires burning in the northern part of our province and there are fires in other provinces too. All the help we can get is truly appawciated.

The Southern Lights are so lovely. The fire fighters will be greatly appreciated. It is so kind that people come from so far to help. We live far from the fires but our family live in a city where they are close by. From Jessica
