Mum is sad tonight. One of her favourite shows on New Zealand TV is Campbell Live a current affairs news programme on channel 3 that has played for 17 years and tonight they have announced that it is to come to an end. It has been good at showing good average kiwi stories about real people, and done with a great sense of humour and honesty. They have been the champion of the underdog and chased good causes, including putting food in schools for hungry kids and fighting for those who are still suffering in Christchurch after the earthquakes of a few years ago.
One of mums most fave stories was the one where they showed these fabulous dogs from the SPCA. It was part of their campaign to teach people that shelter dogs were smart. A NZ dog trainer took 3 shelter dogs and trained them all to drive a mini car. Awesome.
Such a shame to lose a quality programme with a great team.
HaHa! Very good.....But then..If you ask a dog to catch a mouse...! :). We have a program over here called 'Watchdog' that's much the same thing, introduced by Anne Robinson...It's done and help so many over the years! Power of Television!
Poppy, dear, please tell your mum to have hope. A good lady who presented similar work on local TV recently retired and was 'replaced' by talent considered more 'hip and edgy'. She has now been un-retired by another network to cover (among others) seniors doing what they must do to live. When I produced short segments many years ago, we were called "water skiing squirrel team" since our focus was people and pets. Sometimes our "filler" got more fan mail than the news!
That makes me sad too Poppy, even though I've never seen the show. Good shows get shows get cancelled too often here too. To make room for super lame pseudo reality shows that are super cheap to make, but always seem to get higher ratings. I think some people (not all, of course,) have bad taste in shows!

It is awful to have our favourite TV shows canceled. Our TV died last year so all our favourite TV shows were "cancelled". Mum remembers this spot about dogs learning to drive in NZ being aired here in Canada and we all loved it. Meow from Jessica

Always sad when a good TV show gets taken off the air.
