My Mum works in a hospital - and as she wrote last night she thinks a lot of the public don't get it.  They don't understand.  She found these posts on Bored Panda last night including the picture above.  It explains the importance of what is going on right now.  We know the news is confusing and scary.  PLEASE STAY HOME.  If you have to go to work or the supermarket we understand.  But cafes, and meet ups and church can all wait.  Protect yourself and your neighbors.   PLEASE STAY HOME.

  1. We get it, Poppy. Our office all started telework on Monday. It was supposed to last until March 27, but today they let us know the office will stay closed until at least April 17. It’s very discombobulating, depressing and scary but you do what you have to do. All our restaurants are closed except for delivery or carry out. My little town just announced that while the parks will remain open they are cordoning off all the playground equipment as they can’t keep sanitizing them. But seeing all these young college kids on spring break mobbing the beaches is just so selfish...we pray that your mum stays safe so she can continue to help others.

  2. People are pretty selfish sometimes. I would like to stay home, but I have to go to work. I can't do that from home, and I don't get paid if I don't work, so it's a bit of a bother. I don't worry about getting ill myself (I'm not sure why I don't) but I worry about passing it on to others.

  4. Even though it's disappointing having my therapy cat visits and cat shows all cancelled, my human and I totally get it, and we are staying in except for picking up necessities, and have been for over a week now, even before California locked down. My breeder had pneumonia many years ago, and it left her lungs very damaged. Knowing her, and other people with compromised immune systems, is enough for my human to stay far away from people, and pay attention to all cleaning protocols. And tell your human thank you for her work - it's hard right now to be on the front lines of this, which as a hospital worker, she is, and we saw an article about doctors in Italy who have died of Covid-19. So it's not to be taken lightly at all.

  5. Poppy and Julie, I do get it and have stayed at home as much as possible for the past 2 weeks. I have a poor immune system due to the tablets I take for cancer so want as little contact with the outside world as possible. I do have to go to the surgery once a week for a blood test, but they are taking every precaution possible. I am also on the urgent list for gallbladder removal as it is very inflamed and causing biliary attacks on average every 2 weeks, the last one being 3 days after the previous one which made me very ill. I know my urgent listing won't count in these awful times, but quite honestly, going into hospital is the last place I want to be right now.
You and all the medical staff are doing a wonderful job under incredible pressure and I applaud and appreciate you all.

  6. There are a lot of selfish, stupid people out there, of all ages. Like my boss's brother and sister-in-law who went to Myrtle Beach last week (?)anyway. Idiots.

I can't imagine what it must be like for health care workers world-wide. I applaud you all and will keep my candles lit for everyone. Tell your mum to please stay safe and be well. Our thoughts and prayers are with you both.

  7. P.S. I meant to add (re: your comment about going to Costco early) that last Saturday there was a huge crowd lined up outside the doors over an HOUR before opening. Early isn't going to matter.

  8. Julie, stay healthy. It can not be easy to be in health care now.
We have supplies in and even extra cat food delivered so this is
home for now. Had cabin fever in Jan. and Feb. This is different
feeling. Thank you for sharing the picture of the doctors.
